Both types of protagonists are fine. FF has always had a mix of stoic protagonists with hidden depth beneath their surface (Cecil, Terra, Cloud, Squall), and more energetic and outgoing protagonists who display more outward emotion (Bartz, Zidane, Tidus, Vaan).

Tidus has Autism, his dialogue is stilted and unnatural, he does not feel very real. he doesn't react to social situations in a human way. he randomly does backflips and awkward dances for no reason.
Even worse are FF7R characters who have the most unnatural, cringey, terrible acting. +making autistic anime grunt noises instead of talking properly. They don't feel like real people at all.

FF16 is the only FF game that actually has decent acting and mannerism animation. Characters actually interact like people and not subhuman anime drones. it's the 1 thing they did right.
