Note that this is just one example. The site doesn't say it's the only one, it is very likely more will be censored in the full release. Expect dialogue censorship as well; even Falcom is censoring their "problematic" dialogue in the new Trails remake and Bamco openly swears allegiance to DEI.

In an age when anything goes for sex and msot drugs, it seems trite to give a shit about a pipe. Like, giving HIV is some sort of protected class in California but the way to smoke tobacco that is least likely to cause cancer is problematic.

it has nothing to do with localizers and everything to do with age ratings in various countries. thanks to the deep rock devs, we now know that some countries will immediately slap you with an M rating for smoking. possibly only if the game has both smoking and alcohol though? and while I haven't played xillia, I assume there's a bar or some other obvious depiction of alcohol, so it's easier to drop the very minor tobacco part and keep the T rating
