why do ppl say this is the best jrpg ever? it fucking sucks. i first started out with the silver guy and then did his story but it didnt feel like he was a main character and has zero aura so i started over as the samurai guy and i just finished his story and i dont get why people even say this is a good jrpg? the story seems like it sucks and it just has no aura and the graphics are actually so mid and brown and washed out. it doesnt even look good, it's blurry. the bloom looks bad. the game does not look good in motion and it has a stupid day/night cycle where you can just have it at anytime you want, like what exactly is the point of that

Because it is great. It looks great, the music is good, the characters are decent and each story has everything for everyone, the gameplay is fun, quick and hits the peaks it needs to hit. As simple as that.

It's a great fucking game, a world fun to explore as you see fit, lots of secrets and the game doesn't hold your hand when it comes to side quests, but you actually have to use your brains. Since you don't like games, I suggest you go watch Netflix or something, you'll find stories there.

You can turn the bloom off. In general whenever you open a new game you should go straight to settings and make the game look good to you.

Atmosphere you mean? and yeah, i find the games lacking. I stsrted the demo of live a live and it has everything this game lacks. which is ambition, personality and atmosphere. Which in jrpgs are like fundamental for me.

I specified in every aspect that matters.
The graphics are pretty. I like the sprites, i like the lightning, i like the bosses unique battle sprites.
The music is really, really pretty, and it fits every single place. The boss battle themes are pretty cool and hype.

This isn't debate class. I don't have to specify shit. Reality is objectivity. I conceive reality from my own perception. I perceive Octopath 2 as amazing if you disagree you are a fragment of my subconscious trying to keep the illusion of reality not being my own construct in place so my power doesn't get out of hand. Anything you disagree with me on is wrong for I am the literal god of this realm you are nothing but a peon who will disappear the second I leave this thread and forget about you.

I got both of the games bundled on sale and I don't think I can finish the first game, its so boring. The characters I actually like have their chapter 2 on the other side of the map at a much higher level where I get insta killed in random battles if I try to go to them. None of the characters acknowledge each other's existence and every single story follows the same exact template and the boss fights are just finding the weakness and hammering it till they die. There's no real overarching story just fragmented characters totally isolated from each other who happen to be traveling together and never speak to each other.
Its a pretty shit setup for a jrpg quite frankly, I can't believe how much praise this received, probably not gonna both with the second game because it looks very similar.

Octopath received the Nintendo Bonus due to how it was exclusive to the Switch for awhile. Or was it the Wii? Whichever one. When it came to PC more people started to play it and find out it was sort of mediocre, most notable for Sqeenix's returning to the old Final Fantasy aesthetic back when FF was a Nintendo game instead of a Sony game.

that was my first post in the thread so i dont know if you think im someone else but asking me to randomly compare games seems pointless.

the most apt comparison i can think of is a generic basic rpg maker game with no unique mechanics or interesting story whatsoever, usuing all basic default assets. thats what it feels like playing.
like attack, items defend, a few fire, ice, lightningagic, a linear leveling system with generic noname dungeons with random encounters vs generic enemies, boring basic animations, on top of the most generic storytelling and completr lack of world building.

im sure id be impressed if it was the first ever rpg ive played in my life but unfortunately its not.

Octopath felt bad to me in the same way picrel was, just less egregiously so. Had potential but felt like the story and characters were written independant of each other, the gameplay is pretty uninspiring. Diofield really brought these problems to a new level, though. Such wasted potential that just torpedos itself after the first (brief) half of the game

No it's just shit to play on PC.

Are you seriously sitting at a fucking desk to play OctopathTraveler? I can't even begin to imagine how shit that must be.

These are cute retro-styled storybook games which abosultely shine on a system like Switch, playing a chapter a night, tucked up up in bed.

The game doesn't have a rock-paper-scissor system. There are weaknesses, but they don't come with strengths. By mechanics I mean all the game mechanics in the game; the job system, the boost system, the active/passive skills, special skills each character has and so on. The game has a great superboss which is a challenge to beat assuming you don't use guides, so good luck.

In what way is the balance worse? I'm only just on the 2nd act of each character so I'm not far in but so far I've seen basically no reason to ever swap Mage man and Cleric woman from my team so I've just spent the entire game(I got them 2nd and 3rd after the merchant) swapping out only my 4th slot cause they're all way less useful.
Anonymous No.718950968 [Report] >>718954717
i liked it because its a jrpg thats just a jrpg. i liked it in the same way i liked 2016 doom.

its also nice because there's not a lot of missables, you can just go in blind finish all the story in whatever order you want, and not worry about being locked out of anything.

also the patch that added the super boss fights -- true vide was one of the hardest jrpg boss fights i've ever played and was pretty memorable.

>>718950129
1 and 2 were very similar to me -- i actually liked the leveling system of 1 a little better because i thought it had more cool switchable passives, like the ones you get with rune knight. in 1, i was grinding to get every skill because there were so many good ones. in 2, i had all the skills i wanted like 70% through the game, with no need to grind.

that said 2 makes things like animal summons not suck ass, and you can learn really cool techniques from dueling people.

overall i liked them both more or less equally

it sounds to me like you haven’t unlocked subjobs yet which might make things hard to explain. but for starters if you start with the thief you immediately get access to an advanced subjob in her starting town that can effortlessly destroy all random encounters in one turn.
in general 2 unit
as a side note the apothecary guy’s concoct heals better than the cleric woman’s but costs materials that you can get with the merchant girl’s purchase and also drop from trash mobs. the merchant girl also becomes || the strongest damage dealer by the endgame with the right setup while the mage man falls off by midgame ||
Anonymous No.718951723 [Report] >>718951940
>>718950897
i dont know if you've gotten to the point, but at a point in the game you can give each character two classes and swap passives learned by the characters. there's also special classes or whatever they are called you can get by beating optional bosses.

your primary class is fixed, the second can be swapped.

some of the special classes are just straight up full on upgrades of basic classes to the extent that one might consider, for instance, warrior and the warrior special class as being highly redundant. in a case like that, there's such overlap that, from a versatility standpoint, you might be better off with a different primary class

the actual base stats between characters, if i remember right, aren't that crazy, and you can use nuts to make up for them.

part of the fun is in figuring out what combinations you like.

2 stories do tend to be more dramatic though. I think you can still enjoy the stories even if they are generic, not everything has to be groundbreaking. OT1 and 2 are both very mixed games. Personally, I like the HD2D style, but I recognize it's a very divisive style. The fractured, individualized stories for each of the 8 characters does more harm than good IMO as it prevents there from being an overall plot or unifying boss until the very end through a stupid secret boss that some players will never even see. The voice acting is a mixed bag. About the only universally good thing about Octopath is the combat, which is frankly my main reason for even playing these games. If you don't like the combat, you might as well skip the games since they don't have much else going for them.

for octopath 2 there are some pretty good summons, but ochette, the hunter for octopath 2 is extremely good, to the extent that her summons were the only way i could beat extra battles mode bosses.

in octopath 1 monsters have a set amount of summons then disappear, in octopath 2 you can summon them infinite times after capture, AND ochette gets a skill to make them get summoned up to 5 times a turn. some of the monsters can cast shit like auto-revive and spell reflect (i think the caits) on the entire party, so its pretty busted.

there's also a way to cheat and make her use ultimate monsters several times (that are supposed to be one use per battle), but its not even really necessary with how busted summons already are once you can do 5 monster per turn summons, and summons like caits are ridiculous enough anyway.

It's never going to compete against FF.

Partition is anti-corporativist capitalist.
He represents what true free market is about and how moral plays an important part of that.

Partitio was the last character I added to the party because I thought he would be lesst interesting, but he's insane charisma conquered me.
He is such a Chad that even the scrivener that brought back the main villain was affected by his actions

Even though I mostly liked the game, I did not enjoy playing half the cast of Octo II. The priest was like some smug redditor. I guess that's cool to that demographic, but he annoyed the fuck out of me. Don't like that merchant guy either, even though his skills were OP. Some of the stories were bizarre and grim (Throne's especially). Like some kind of weird fever dream. Very unique, but unique doesn't always mean I enjoyed it.

>but felt like the story and characters were written independent of each other
They absolutely were, Andrias is doing shit in the dark the entire game and that's the plot. The problem is that the character who is carrying the game fucks off to carry the rest of the plot, and no one else is given more screen time to compensate. You just get more Fred who is supposed to be an unlikable fuck up.

They also add a bunch of things to the library after finishing the game without telling the player. I wonder if they intended to have an NG+ with scenes added to get the full story but ran out of time/money.

They were. That's a common criticism of these games.
Feels like they couldn't manage to write one single grand tale with 8 main characters so instead they just wrote a bunch of generic short stories, slapped them together and called it a day.

You can't be in your 30's if you are this stupid. I'll assure you kids don't talk about Octopath 2, they talk about MOBAs, shooting games, Fortnite, Minecraft, all that crap. There is not a single school bus anywhere in the world where there would be kids talking about Octopath 1 and 2. Octopaths are clearly games designed for old school JRPG fans. SNES era. You owned SNES back in the day, right?

>ugh, why doesn't this game have movie scenes, I lack imagination so I can't immerse myself into these sprite conversations
>ugh, why doesn't the game tell me where to go next, why must I decide myself, this is so confusing
>words words, reading is boring, I want action and gacha mechanics
>ugh, this game is so grindy, it requires me to fight so many battles, it's like all you do in this game is battle
And so on and so on. So basically you.

They're all crap, you just share taste with children. MOBAs are dumbified RTS, shooting games are just point-and-click, Fortnite is a predatory gacha scheme designed to rid kids of their money, Minecraft is legos.

Only Red Orchestra was good and that's because it was designed to be a historical game for history nerds. And there were no kids around when it was active.
