RT is the endgame but knowing nV they will push neural rendering next.
The real issue is how devs don't want to make both raster and RT versions to the same standard.
One is always the focus at the cost of the other.
Not to mention very few games gain from real time RT because of how the majority of games are just static environments with set lighting. So you can simply pre-bake everything and not suffer the performance hit.
But it makes creating open world slop easier so there is that.
Hardware isn't there and it's not even on the horizon, maybe in 10 years.
