What people don't seem to understand is that Simon is not a copy, since he won the coin toss every time, except the last one - that's when he was left behind. Even his winning streak had to end, which is what's so mindfucky and tragic about Soma.

But in Alien, it is a copy, so it does kill you. I don't think there is a coin flip there, since the original body dies.

Coin-toss is not a thing its just a made up term to lessen the existential dread to make the fact that there is a technology that literally makes a copy of you while you are still alive more tolerable.
If you made a copy of yourself right now there would be no coin-toss you would go on living as you always do and the copy would feel as if its already lived your entire life and is just a continuation of your consciousness as well.

Think about this, there is no coin toss (unless you concider which copy the player has control over as a successful coin toss; in that case, the player got to play both simons, both underwater simon and ark simon; so both won the coin toss). It's just copies. Your consciousness doesn't go anywhere, it stays in the original scanned body. For each copy, they themselves "won the coin toss" since they have their own consciousness and a subjective point of view relative to the original scanned individual. But there is no coin toss, just copies and more copies with minds of their own.
