I'm gonna call bullshit on that. It has nothing to do with the pitch but because Sega doesn't want their stuff to get banned in China and the Middle East. There will NEVER be an actual not gay character in Sonic, IDW or otherwise.

That's why Hardlight had to delete that Sonic art with the pride flags. That's also why, after years of pushing them as a gay couple, Flynn had to make a public tweet about how it was all a lie.

They need to learn how to write stories where the characters don't need to change. They did it fine enough with those Mega Drive and other classic Sonic stories. They can also write stories were only a few OCs change, but keep it similar to how Sonic was written by the Japanese doing the 2000s. Stop making too many dumb subplots that just fall flat.

With all the limitations they have from Sega? I doubt it. It's also easier for the story's sake to make a new but similar character fully included in the Sonic universe than bringing a crossover character in.

If that's even what they're doing here, I don't follow the comic but "jester of ambiguous gender in a Sega product" instantly makes me think of NiGHTS.
