UFO 50 is the antithesis to Void Stranger. Both titles are essentially modern takes on the "retro" genre, and UFO 50 attempts to make the "treasure hunting" of thrift store finds into a game, while VS just aims to make one really good game.
The majority of the titles in UFO 50 are shit. Some of them are alright, but all of the good ones could've used longer in the oven, they are mostly half baked. The standout title is Mini and Max for me, and I wish there was more of it. In UFO 50 you play games you don't really enjoy for the sake of the cheevos, and while this occasionally leads to some fun you weren't expecting to have, a lot of it is just a slog. Good games don't need to trick you into playing them, they're just good. I gave up on UFO 50 after probably around 40 hours, with maybe half the games cherried, because I had mostly ran out of games I enjoyed playing. VS, lasted 60 hours and I enjoyed the majority of that time, unprompted by cheevo hunting.

Tried UFO 50 and couldn't get into it. The games are just clunky. I know that's the entire idea but why would someone enjoy this if not for nostalgia goggles? I didn't grow up with these games so it did nothing for me

Don't forget that Retro Game Challenge is "complete" - as in, you get documentation for the games, magazine articles, people in-game talking about them.
UFO 50 did the modern game bullshit where it shirks all that onto the playerbase to stoke fake community engagement and now UFO50's devs are selling all that shit as a separate purchase.

I don't know if you're asking for general recs for Bug Hunter-like games or specifically retro, but if you don't mind something more modern you might enjoy Fights in Tight Spaces. Don't let the deck building aspect put you off.

The fact you act like Void Stranger, a glorified sokoban, and UFO50, a huge collection of full-albeit-short games, are the only two retro indies out there to compare shows you really don't know your stuff - like the guy who's only seen White Chicks and so compares every movie he watches later to it.

Really, there's no comparison between the two. UFO50 (which even has a quality sokoban INSIDE it) is an amazing value for hardcore retro-style gaming, with hours and hours and hours of play. Going into it cold, you could easily wring 300 hours from it all, and each of the games have shocking heft to them. Mortol? Onion Delivery? Mooncat? Valbrace? These alone are worth the price of all fifty, and that's just scratching the surface. There are games to tickle you and some to test the very limits of ability, like Star Waspir or Campanella 2/3.

TL;DR, this game is just too good for you.
