No annoyingly vast open world to run back and forth across, just Bitterblack Isle. You still have open-concept floors and chambers that can be traversed in multiple ways, just no 45 minutes of jogging to lofi "WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS" jams.

The story is probably the biggest dogshit i've ever seen and yet the game is still enjoyable because of the DD gameplay formula. That alone should show Capcom how much of a goldmine they're sitting on and yet they're too retarded to stop shoveling all their resources into monhun (that people are upset with anyways) If any other game had a story as bad as DD2, it wouldnt survive anywhere online, it would be the biggest laughing stock out and would probably kill the company that made it. Its THAT bad and yet DD2 is still fun.

I enjoyed myself immensely but I basically had to play it wrong on purpose to do that.
I ended up sneaking into Bakhbattahl and ignoring the Main Quest for like 50 hours. Stuff that people saw in the first 10 hours it too me a week to find.

In the end the world felt big and full of mystery because I kept finding new stuff, even in places I had been before. Being alone in Bakhbattahl, underlevelled in this hostile zone, genuinely felt like I was on an adventure. I didn't have much money so I bought one Khopesh-shaped sword and some other desert-y clothes then that carried me through some nearby fights, which most other players would just ignore since by the time they got to Bakhbattahl normally they'd have better gear.

The thing is, that was just me doing weird shit of my own accord - for most players I can see them just beelining the main story and getting nothing much out of the game. The game is pretty much entirely what you get out of it, yet wasn't designed like that from the ground up so it obviously turned out awkwardly when Capcom rushed it out the door.
Also just a general lack of enemy variety, bizarre loot system that, and general attitude to world design that is the Director lacking focus on what he wants from the game.

Limiting vocations to only their weapon was definitely a decision in DD2, and it's resulted in each of them feeling incomplete. Getting rid of rust, gold, and tar weapons was also a decision. Only ice can slow down enemies, why the fuck would you be so restrictive? It's like the game actively makes sure you're always in a team of four with a sorcerer or two because heaven forbid players want to do things solo or just with their main pawn. Obviously you can just do things solo with no pawns, but that doesn't change the fact you're actively gimping yourself because you're severely limited in how you approach combat scenarios.

There's definitely things to like in DD2, but whenever I play it I can help but see how much better certain aspects of the first game were, especially with how vocations and gear were handled. I get the same feeling whenever I play Wilds, just makes me want to go back to Rise or the PSP games again because there's actually shit to do that isn't farm end game tickets and artian weapons.

The first game seems to have left an echo of incredible potential that was not fulfilled by DD2. The game is not worst in every aspect but you don't get stuff like BBI (rushed ending world doesnt count) I'll never forgive them for erasing Assassin and Mystic Knight and implementing the utter trash that are Wayfarer and Trickster. As far as I understand, the nuked MMO had even more vocations but everything was simplified and flanderized in DD2. Sad.

You can actually, the game servers will accept pawns below 150cm, probably because the changes for player pawns (height floor+forced slider changes as pawns get shorter to prohibit 'childlike' proportions even at 150cm) were likely added last minute. There's multiple Capcom pawns with heights below 150cm

I spent 10 years installing and reinstalling this game until I finally got it to even work, and then lo and behold, it was so bad that I just went back to playing SOTS 1 anyway.

Different anon here. How about how they removed animation canceling, cut Mystic Knight, cut dagger + bow (unless you use the shitty meme class that forces you to waste a skill on weapon swapping or pausing the game), cut skills, cut enemies, no ur dragon style boss, no bbi equivalent. Or how about how they made the movement more sluggish and realistic in contrast to the swift and smooth movement from 1? Or how about how every enemy is noticably easier in 2 than in 1? Or how about how the endgame (where most people like to STAY to farm the end game bosses) is times unless you avoid resting. Why would you do this when Post-Dragon Everfall and Post-Daimon BBI were the communities' favorite spots to fight enemies?
As a fighter main I'm also pissed af that they nerfed perfect block. In Dragon's Dogma 1, 3 consecutive perfect blocks in quick succession followed by a melee attack could knock down a chimera. You can't do that in 2. Which makes sword and shield less satisfying. The cut shield skills like sheltered assault really hurt. I really, really liked using it and the rapid shield bash attack. But I can't anymore. Because Itsuno is a retarded hack that ruined my favorite class and stripped it of everything I loved.

Local hosting? Look at our repository and/or ask on the Discord (unironically). It's not hard per se to set up, but its not quite the same experience as playing on one of the public servers because they have their own enemy spawn setups that are much more enjoyable than the stuff that we distribute with the server files.

As for fucking with the day/night cycle, it's tricky. The best we can do is "freeze" Lestanian time at a certain point (by making the day-night cycle super long), or lie to the client such that they always log in at 6am Lestanian time.
