It's to avoid the problem Torchlight 2 had releasing close to Diablo 3 or Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur (iirc), losing potential players to the bigger titles. That is not a new issue in the industry, and devs plan accordingly; as they should. HK was a phenomenon and it's no secret that Silksong will sell like hell on release and occupy a lot of players time.

It reeks of corporate seeding. It was the same thing with Baldumb's Gay 3 and Clair 'Destined for Obscurity' Obscur 33 (I bet the first 32 games were classics too, right?)

Fact: no real person is hyped for Silksong. It’s marketing smoke and mirrors. A hype bubble being inflated by people who stand to profit from it. It's 15 bucks for a 40+ hour game that's consistently good from start to finish. Combat & mechanics are simple but deep, story & worldbuilding is extensive but doesn't interrupt gameplay, the map is massive and there's a ton of level variety.
It's not really a game that peaks after an hour of gameplay, it's more of a slow burn where the more you play it the more you enjoy it.

For small indie games, I get it. They don't have marketing budgets, they need to rely being at the right place at the right time with a bit of word of mouth thanks to streamers. When Silksong comes out, every streamer will hop on that and anything released that same week or two will be lost.

Indies also have the advantage of being their own bosses. No AAA studio is justifying to their shareholders that they are delaying a month and wasting all their marketing money to avoid the glorified DLC for some metroidvania about bugs.

People need to stop glazing Silksong so much. This game took as long to develop as AAA games that people complain about the long development time over and it doesn't look like there has been that radical of a gameplay change from the first game. Reviewers would put AAA games on a spitfire if it was still the same game from the first game with such a long game from its initial release. For Silksong this seems okay now. Let's also ignore the no review copies which is usually a red flag for games. Nobody really believes game studios do this to "prevent spoilers for the game coming out" or "to have everyone play the game at the same time." It's usually because they lack confidence in the game and worry about getting certain negative reviews.

I still don't get Hollow Kninght's appeal. I played it for ten hours and dropped it around the time you get to the raining city. The music and atmosphere are great but the gameplay is just a giant platformer and it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

HK has a lot of good content for a very low price, the game is also very aesthetically pleasing for a lot of people, there's dark souls lore for lore autists too, and it's the first metroidvania a lot of people have played so lots of normies thought "damn I didn't know you could make a game like this", alongside all that it's an example of a kickstarter game that ended up surpassing expectations and it was made by like 3 guys to it has an underdog story narrative tied to it, in this current world of designed by commitee 300 pajeets in the credits AAA games we live in right now, and to top it off I really liked the music personally so people also enjoyed that I think.
