Honestly, I think UTY will probably end up being the most popular and well liked fangame the UT community ever makes. Even for all it's problems, UTY is still basically the gold standard for a UT fangame, and it's inevitable that any other full length fangames are gonna end up being compared to it if/when any of those actually end up coming out.
Also, the various DRY takes are interesting, but they inherently have more required reading behind them which means they'll almost certainly never have the same amount of broad appeal as UTY had. You only have to have played UT to enjoy UTY, but you have to play UT, UTY, and DR in order to enjoy the DRY takes, and that gives them a higher barrier to entry. They might still be good, but in terms of popularity, they're never gonna reach the same level UTY did at it's peak.

UTY's actually fairly shorter than UT is, since you don't even necessarily have to do the neutral route as a prerequisite for doing the pacifist route.
If UT is a 6-8 hour game, I'd say UTY is somewhere around 4-6 hours long, it's at least two hours shorter.

This is true in UT as well. If you do neutral without killing anybody, all you have to do is the dates before unlocking the Lab.
If anything, I spent more time on my first UTY playthrough than my first UT playthrough since I skipped neutral in UT whereas the last two areas are pretty different on UTY neutral

Like not a full blown swap AU, but the idea of maybe Chara actually did want a normal life in the underground, but then more humans started showing up and ruining everything trying to get back home, causing Chara to reset and try the "kill all humans" path?

Honestly, I don't think TS!US is bad, and I do think the idea of an underswap game but with the character's personalities not 100% swapped (so as to not just be base UT with a different coat of paint) is interesting, but the game diverges from even the basic premise way too far in certain areas that kinda ruin the idea of it actually being an underswap game. They also tacked on way too much extra stuff and it just makes the game feel bloated and unfocused, like that journal mechanic and gamejolt achievements and online stuff.

Well, aside from being a reference to something that gets said a lot in the original UT, I'm basically saying that we're all still talking about this game because none of us really wanna let go, despite this game not actually having that much to talk about before having to invent new things just for the sake of conversation.
I mean, take a look at the UTY subreddit. Filter the posts so that you see the top rated posts of all time, and it's all exclusively stuff from around when the game actually came out. High quality fanart, comics, stories, discussions, etc. People actually talking and making stuff about the game itself, and the game's story and characters. Contrast that to what the subreddit consists of now, endless self-insert OC shit, AU slop, and drama centered around meaningless bullshit.
They ran out of stuff to talk about regarding the actual source material, and most people moved on, except for the people who just couldn't let go.
Now, look back at the older UTY threads in the archive, and compare that to now.
Seem familiar?
None of us really want to stop talking about UTY, but there also isn't too much left to talk about either. So despite there being nothing new left for us to see in this world, we keep coming back, again and again, out of a desire to feel what it made us feel before.
Out of a sense of perverted sentimentality.

The game is fun and only really has the issue that the end of the game has issues with being underpolished.
Which amusingly happened to Undertale, too.

That incest game was made for shit like that, so naturally the subject matter isn't really treated with the kind of seriousness and groundedness that some people may want.
Applying that kind of subject matter to something entirely removed from it makes it jarring and weird, which is usually the point of such works, when they aren't being written as straight up pornography.
I haven't read the work in question myself yet, but I intend to see what all the fuss is about, regardless of how detrimental it is to my sanity. The second I catch a whiff of it being written for the sake of being actual porn though, I'm dipping.

The more overt furry designs in UTY definitely had some impact on it's general perception, but from what I'm seeing of Wildfire, it looks like that one's going even harder in that direction, with even a lot of the overworld monsters being pretty blatant furry designs.
Popularity aside, I was asked about *my* opinion regarding the game, and I gave it. I think the designs are a bit much overall, including the player character. I don't think the more detailed eyes they have going on work too well, and their outfit also just doesn't seem right.
UTY may have had some questionable designs here and there, but it nailed Clover's design perfectly. Clover would fit right in with the various official human designs we see in UTDR, whereas the human character from Wildfire just gives me pure OC vibes. It's not a bad design by itself, but I just don't think it fits in UT's style very well.

"Perverted sentimentality" is a phrase from Undertale. It doesn't literally mean "sexual sentimentality" or something like that, it just means intense/warped. I get that. Though, frankly, my favorite part of the comic as a whole is how the general tumblr nature(Both stylistically and writing wise) clashes so much with the rather over the top(yet still almost realistic feeling) gore. It's oddly affecting in that way good edgekino fanfiction should be.

Oldentale dev here.

Still working on programming. I've finally got a good thing setup with my programmer, and progress should be steady from here on. I got side tracked for a while by some serious JoJo brainrot, which slowed development, but I'm done with that now, so I can dedicate most of my time to the game again. Right now I need to work on some sprites so I can test character animations.

As a side note, I was watching part 5 and something in it was eerily similar to something I have planned for Oldentale. Like its almost the exact same concept. I won't say what it is because I don't want to spoil my game, but I do wonder if other people will think the same thing when my game comes out.

Alright, I read chapter 7 of that fic.
You know what? That wasn't actually that bad. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance for these sorts of things, but that was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Definitely still unpleasant, but the way the story is conveyed really makes me think that's the point, and that you're not supposed to be getting off to it at all.
