they really need to add repair costs in, it's comical that you can do the worst landing on possible on purpose, gear up, in the grass, rip every flight surface off, end up with a detached cockpit and everything else in flames, and roll that same plane out of the hangar a few seconds later like nothing happened

If you fly a helicopter like a huey, they rotate constantly. That's what the tail rotor compensates for. Flying a helicopter takes skill and touch, because it's constantly rotating in one direction, if you don't compensate. It's not at all like Battlefield.
The double rotors spin in opposite directions to get rid of the helicopter rotation. Notice how the Ka-50 doesn't have a tail rotor?

planes look like big birds. birds fly thorugh the sky in the most majestic of manners. people have written stories about them for billennia. we like birds- they tell us the weather, they tell us where other predators and prey are, we're mostly too big for them to do anything about.
helicopters are like bugs. little bugs and big bugs. they zip around all low to the ground, and hover, and turn on a dime, which neither planes or birds are supposed to do in our brains. bees and grasshoppers and carrion flies. our primal monkey brains still remember swarms of locusts and carrion-eaters, and that kind of movement gives an instinctual flight response (no pun intended) that's only overcome through training or autism.

Fly low to avoid radar line of sight, and in a pinch you can shoot down incoming missiles with your own (the IR missiles tend to maneuver better here)
Anonymous No.718981356

The game doesn't really explain how missiles work yet, it is early access after all, so it can be a bit confusing. If you're getting targeted at long range it's either by an enemy aircraft (try and shoot it down), a Stratolance missile platform (destroy the nearby radar to 'blind' the missile launchers) or possibly a Shard missile frigate (overwhelm it with missile spam). Stealth is modelled in the game, so flying a stealthy aircraft (Vortex being the stealthiest IIRC) without exterior weapons can help with preventing radar lock at longer ranges

Fly nap of earth if there is long range SAMs or very high if there are no long range SAMs. Stratolaunches and destroyers can attack from 50km, Boltstrikes and most other ships from 15km, and 5km for IR SAMs. Turn perpendicular to radar missiles and use jammer to notch them. If you expect that active missiles MAY come your way, already put yourself at an angle from where you think they'll be launched from. For IR missiles, reduce thrust to lower heat signature, try and not to present your rear end (hottest part) to the missile, and flare in brusts. You can also pre-flare if you think a launch is imminent, so the missile doesn't even come after you. For optical missiles, literally just manuever away from them like an ace combat shit missiles. Use fast missiles or spam (I love kingpins) to kill most SAMs or SPAAGs, or dumb/glide bombs against IR SAMs which cannot see them.
