Around chapter 3. Gets really good at around chapter 4. Honestly though, RDR1 is the better game. This one feels like a much more competent and immersive Ubisoft game, which isn't a bad thing; the story is gripping enough, the world breathtaking and full of detail, the gameplay serviceable, but the first Redemption has such an atmosphere the second can't even begin to approximate, even though the first is much smaller and compact. I'd suggest that you play RDR1, if you haven't, before playing RDR2, and taking your time with it, like doing the challenges, activities, mini games. It'll only take 30 hours tops, compared to the hours that the second game demands.
