unfortunately this will never happen because getting lost and having to do incidental mental labor like triangulating yourself with a compass are seen as game design bad practices.

TDP is miserable to play as a game. Even the manor in the first mission is endlessly labyrinthian. MIssions like The Sword are ridiculously overrated. T2 is the superior game by far.

This was one of the best gaming experiences from the last 5 years and it shows good core gameplay, smart level design and soulful art direction beats multi million triple A slop. The fact that this is a free mod makes it all the more hilarious how incompetent game devs are these days. I hope we get an expansion for this which adds one or two more maps to expand the story a bit and give it more breathing room.

How about some flames to warm up the thread? I hate FMs that underemphasize gameplay. Scarlet cascabel is much beloved, and it does have neat graphics and set pieces, but it's a chore to actually play. There are barely any guards, so the stealth element is practically absent.
Another widely beloved mission I found underwhelming was alcazar. Its weird level design doesn't immerse you into a strange universe, but just feels awkward to me.
Rose garden has a very nice multi-level city architecture, as well as tough sections and original gameplay, but I can't help but also feel that the traversal across gardens and rooftops felt a bit forced, and there wasn't any reasonable way to tackle the assassins in a fight. I'm glad I played the level to witness the city, but I didn't feel like it was well-designed for a fun experience.
As for mods I liked, ascend the dim valley is great, and I would've recommended a mid summer heist as well if it were not for the gem requirement I wasn't able to fullfil. I hate strict limits, not to mention, the whole loot system makes a lot less sense in a single-mission campaign mod

That entire DeWalls sequence felt like a dream. The echoing Mechanist drones in the distance, the cold hum of those turbines, and then boom-Assassin's Theme just slices through the atmosphere like Garrettโs blackjack. Absolute chills. Keeperโs library was also peak Thief: disorienting architecture, layered objectives, and that weird echo effect when you frobbed that ancient tome. Noirequierโs tomb gave me Bonehoard flashbacks but with modern polish. Itโs wild how each mission manages to be *the best one* until you hit the next.

This. Itโs almost infuriating to realize that the talent is still here, but the western vg industry just deliberately choose to go into full slop mode instead.
And there are a lot of other Thief fms with the same level of quality. Scarlet Cascabel, Into the Odd, Alcazar, and two or three dozens of other fms are on the same level of quality. They are single missions tho, not full fledged 10-missions campaigns.

What I hate the most in FMs when it comes to loot is that most of the time I spend an hour backtracking the whole map to get the loot requirement which is usually around 5000 needed or so and when I finally beat the mission and check the stats it turns out that the required loot was only half the total amount in the mission despite how fucking hard it was just to make the minimum requirement. I at least prefer the ones where there's maybe only like 500 or so more gold total than the required amount.

There's nothing like this game, nothing.
Not even Metal Age. You can't remake it either.
And making a sequel/reboot without LGS is pointless. Deadly Shadows was a mild disappointment. The SquareEnix one was a huge let down. And the upcoming VR one's only saving grace is that it's so niche, it'll go by like a fart in the wind.
