Nah it's just somehow all very "pump pump pump" and just constantly envervating and loud. The music mix in the game is fucking awful. I thought maybe they would fix it after I wrote hate-mail in the feedback form after trying the Open Beta, but it's still the same way as back then. It's the first time I've played a Sonic game where I actively find the sound-side to be so annoying that I wanna turn down the music and sound effects.

And ultimately this is just disappointing. I know it's just a racing spinoff though, but everything is old music this time, and it's all just untouched by the original composer (except Jun Senuoe, who IMO sucks at music production. Not guitar, just production) and the rest is just outside-artists arranging some EDM remix of the music.
That would be fine if it was really good EDM, but at lot of it just has this... annoyingly loud quality to it. I think it's the production that trips me up. The sound mix is just off somehow. Everything sounds like it's right in your face in such a forceful way.

Given the game is a racing game I think Sonic Team is trying to have a certain feel to the music that will have better synergy with the whole arcade racing aspect, not everyone is a fan of the EDM genre but I like it personally, maybe the fact they're also having the devs of Initial D working on it made them go hard on the genre as well.
I've heard a rumor theres going to be a jukebox feature like in Frontiers but it might be bullshit.

And IIRC there was a bit more of that Sega Arcade Racer feel to the musics in the Sonic & Sega All-Stars games. I get that they're trying to be modern but Sonic always updated itself and I even liked a lot of EDM in Frontiers. I just feel something is way more sloppy in this game in particular. It just doesn't ever quite hit and over gameplay footage it sounds chaotic and awful to me.

PC chads will just mod the game to replace the OST and add the missing voice lines for mute characters and it's going to be 10/10

06 is great and some of the games right before Sonic Colors were cool, but the really thrashy rock sound it had between the Dreamcast days and late Gamecube era is not something I consider good lol.

Music has been going to shit for a while. Frontiers had maybe a handful of good music at most, Superstars was wildly inconsistent, and Shadow Gens had some of the most awful shit in the franchise. What in the actual fuck happened? I miss Fumie Kumatani and Mariko Nanba. These newer composers fucking SUCK.
