From my understanding Ratchet has still been pretty successful so there really isn't a reason for Sony to shelve it, besides them being retarded of course.
The issue I have is that they sanded off the edges too much. If they want people to get passionate about Ratchet again they should allow him to have at least some attitude, and bring back the anti-corporate messaging. It doesn't need to be XxXEdg3L0rdxXx shit but at least something comparable to the PS2 games? Give people something to talk about.

It was an excuse because almost all the original key devs were fired/left when they demanded Resistance get made.

It's not about difficulty but more nuanced appeal. I can play any of the PS2 games and enjoy space exploration with banger soundtracks and fresh, funny writing. Not so much with PS4+ games.
