TA was objectively a better game but Blizzard was riding pretty high off Diablo so Starcraft rode over TA in the RTS space.

But not everything uses terrain avoiding guided munitions for a reason. Also using a realism argument just emphasises further that Starcrafters don't understand the full implications of simulated projectiles.
