Just do the tutorial quests for ashland and fiama and eventually fiama will give you a gift with a mutliple choice quiz, tell her you wanna explore nefia and she'll give you a +10 protection value ring that should make early bumpcombat a lot more survivable.
Between that ring, maybe crafting basic gear to fill out your slots with stone/wood breastplates and shields etc, plus crafting bandages from tree bark and resin, you should be able to do the puppy dungeon easily

Try to level up on random world map and chop trees. You might get the overpowered putit in ember throwing weapon, should be easier to level up for a while youre getting your other weapon of choice trained up.

Started playing recent and it's been a blast. Picked a succubus and got a succubus+ mod. My first few days of playing were a repeated circle of giving residents of Olivia dream larvae, having sex with those who were asleep, and trying to not get raped to death when it was my time for a nap. I picked a witch class but at the moment my mace skill has some crazy potential from often sleeping with local healer so maybe I'll go melee build with my two dogs tanking

I gave it an honest try.
I don't really understand the appeal. Not saying it's bad. I just don't get it.
And I actually really love more open fantasy games, typically.
It's Early Access, though, so maybe they just haven't set the hook that's supposed let newer players "get" why it's good.

I haven't played in months. I explored everywhere, finished the story, and basically all I had left to do was dealing with the autistic crafting system.
My base was still in the starter map with a shitty looking house made of leaves after 120 hrs of playing.
I wanted to build a Japanese style mansion and quit because spam crafting and sleeping while watching months go by in-game as I looped the process got boring as fuck.
I could just cheat to get the levels I need but what the fuck, I paid $25 just to do this.
