Depends have you played another MGS game? If not: a 10/10 game

If you have and care about MGS lore: prepare for amazing meta delivery of what PHANTOM PAIN is

Ah fuck you won't even understand the plot twist of the game then. You at least know you're playing as Snake, right? And Snake is like the Darth Vader of vidya. He is a major villain, but he was originally a nice guy. MGS3 is him being 100% a good guy. MGSV is supposed to be the bridge between the games where he is nice and those where he is evil.

why would you do this to yourself? you really should play 3 before V, it is the bare minimum

the ideal would be 3 + peacewalker

I don't think playing the other games before V makes much of a difference. You'll be familiar with the characters but that's it. It's also easy to get a grasp of who Snake is supposed to be from the way everyone treats him.

>>718981993
I strongly recommend playing 3 before the other games it's the first one in chronological order

I just wish we had gotten the same attention to level design in the games open world that Camp Omega got. That is my primary complaints about it. But i had like 200+ hours in it so i can't say that i hated it. Infiltrating other people's Mother Bases/forward operating bases was legitimately the most unique thing to come into the stealth genre since Splinter Cell's spies vs mercs. I think there was one location only half as interesting as Omega in the Africa part of the game.

The open world design in retrospect should have not been pursued in favor of maps. I'm of the opinion that larger open maps (not world) would have created a better game than open world, that way you still had every unique way of approaching a mission. Open world design was unneeded bloat, added less to the stealthing experience.

MGS and MGS2 aged like milk. Also you'll burn out before you get to MGS3 which is the pinnacle not only of the franchise but also of vidya itself.

The main Phantom Pain game isn't anywhere near as exciting as Ground Zeroes was. That game may have been a vertical slice, but it's the most polished version of it to exist. I'd dare say it matched the heights of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory in some regards. But the rest of Phantom Pain is a continuing let down in comparison. Not by any means bad, just unfocused. Lack of focus throughout. And will serve as example of why trying to be Far Cry always tarnishes the quality of level design.

Ok from best to worst

TPP > WW > FFXV

Was honestly hard to place WW. While I didn't care much for Wind Waker's sea map, I still give it points to originality so it barely beats FFXV. Now comparing TPP to WW's map was a bit more harder. I think what saved TPP for me was the mods as those were fun as fuck having random shit going on. I never played any WW mods so things might be different if I did.

he's not obsessed with the boss, she was always just a prop for big boss's character. all the fixation on her will is framed through the lens of biggu bossu grappling with it and all the shit that was inserted to make him the center of the narrative universe even more.

>What's unique about WW? It's a bland ocean
One has a body of water, the others doesn't. I'm comparing it to just those 3 games.

Actually the more I think on it, the more FFXV just seems worst all around. FFXV goes out of its way to punish you for exploring. Random encounters just by STANDING STILL is by far the worst thing you could have in an open world game. See something you want to explore? NOPE, fight these random encounters every 2 minutes. Stronger enemies at night time where daytime last like 15 minutes.

Invisible barriers up the ass. Think you can run on top of that small 2ft rock/hill? NOPE, invisible barrier. Then they added flight to the game with controls worst than Superman 64 along with even bigger Invisible barriers and the first time you'll ever see a game over screen if you don't land properly which is like threading a needle. People don't hate FFXV's world enough.

MGS open world is still the worst just because there is no reason for it to be open world.
You pick a mission and pick the nearest spawn point for whatever base you need to infiltrate, then you exfil out of the world.
The game would've still perfectly worked if it was entirely mission based with somewhat open areas.
