E.V.O. Search for Eden is one of the most underrated SNES games ever made. Very cool premise, cute story, great graphics, fun gameplay, some hard as fuck bosses, and a stellar OST. Plus the entire game is you trying to meet and mate with Mother Earth to populate the planet with your children.

The grinding sucked and one wrong evolutionary choice can make progressing almost impossible. Which actually makes it like real evolution but I had to put the game down.

I've played the game and the gameplay itself is fucking garbage. The concept is really cool, but the actual combat and level design is usually dogshit.

I love EVO Search for Eden but have you tried its predecessor, EVO Theory of Evolution?
Search for Eden's got a nice story and all but Theory has you pitched into a 4.6 billion year battle against Lucifer, (seen here literally orgasming as the Chicxulub Impactor kills the dinosaurs)
Search has you endeavoring to be Gaia's partner, Theory has you evolve from fish to the God Emperor of Mankind

EVO Theory of Evolution in such an insufferably fucking cool and interesting game: all the interesting little failed states, the fact Gaia literally told you to evolve a creature to defeat Lucifer, it's all very Devilman. I mentally categorize it within two categories: that early period where people thought the pc was a good platform for more intellectual, smarty, sci-fi, and adult content, and that early experimental period where Japan devs hadn't quite figured out what "video games" were supposed to be, so they were just doing whatever.

EVO Theory of Evolution, Terranigma, Shin Megami Tensai (to some extent), and Linda Cubed, all occupy way more space in my head than is needed, purely on looks and premise.

The premise is that you're the OTHER homo sapien who managed to get the monoliths that the first game's protagonist reaches near the end. If anything, you're there to fuck him.

I played this game on zsnes back when I first discovered emulation but I had no idea what was going on. I think I evolved wrong at the end because my final form was some gray alpaca looking thing instead of anything decent but I won anyway. Maybe I should try it again.

no? Search explicitly has you seeking to be Gaia's partner. It'd be cool as shit if you were Eve on her journey to meet Adam at Eden but that's just not what it's about
