Anything worth playing from this series in the current year?

Splinter Cell was always the poor man's Metal Gear. Hideo Kojima was a genius who knew how to tell a compelling narrative about Americans and their corruption. Ubisoft didn't get that memo and instead decided to go full "America, Fuck Yeah!" with these propaganda ridden games. Of course, Tom Clancy only exploded in popularity after 9/11, where every American became some zealous patriot, feeding into these games like pigs to slop.

CT in particular has better stealth gameplay than any MGS but I've never really cared much for the story

PC faggots say games on PC is the way to go, but the Splinter Cell series is complete shit on the PC. You can literally just buy the PS3 collection and pop that shiet in and it’ll run perfectly. No patches or cock sucking required.

I don't get why people always recommend Chaos Theory on its own.
If you're interested in the series play the first three games in order (SC, PT, CT). They're all great.
>>718981851
This is probably good advice cause you have to do some serious fucking wrangling with each of the PC versions. I just finished the trilogy last October and spent a ton of time configuring shit.

Yeah, I have them on PC and Xbox and prefer playing them on Xbox. If you have XBone or Series, you get the 4k/stable frames boost which is nice. I know Splinter Cell 1 has a fanpatch that gives it controller support for PC as well as some of the assets/shaders from the Xbox version that are missing. But for people who don't want to tinker, console is probably better.
I know you have some die hards who prefer using mouse but using the mouse wheel for movement speed just feels finicky to me.

Blacklist. Don't let mentally ill retards tell you otherwise.

All of the first 3. Double Agent on the original xbox version, it's still got it's highlights even if it's an inconsistent game. That's it. Conviction and Blacklist can be skipped. Unless you like a more action oriented game then you may consider Blacklist. It's just that i think that there's barely anything stealth within it and it's just a disappointment in too many ways. For some reason people are forgiving to it because it's only slightly better than Conviction. But it's core gameplay identity is completely screwed up beyond recognition and the people that feel this way don't seem to have any regard for the franchise's direction prior.

Watched some of a longplay of it. Looks good. Very action movie esque. Made me think of Sicario.
Also the 360 - > upscaled to 4k visuals on Xbox SS is impressive. Maybe it looks that good on PC too, idk.

If you never take a stand against the dumbing down of the games that you like then it will inevitably be made worse in future iterations. That is why i must tell off everyone that enjoyed Blacklist that you're giving Ubisoft the wrong ideas about this franchise. And watering down the original gameplay ideas is something that must be called out for what it is. So i will even tell newcomers to avoid these games to give them the right impressions of Splinter Cell to shape their future expectations correctly so Ubisoft can be held accountable if they mess it up again.

other than banter between sam and lambert there are no references to the earlier splinter cell games and they don't matter anyway so that's why people say to just play chaos theory by itself

>SC1
Yeah sure, why not. It's a decent romp. Rather linear but you can get behind it. Action sequences suck.
>SCPT
I actually liked this one but this game is somehow even more linear than SC1. Sony Ericson sponsored this post.
>SCCT
Probably one of the best stealth games ever made. They fixed most if not all the problems that the previous games had. Some levels suck though, the ones towards the end are my least favourite.
>SCDA V1
Closer to SCCT but this is the turning point of the SC series from the usual "USA good, foreign powers bad" into "what if... le secret agency... bad.." Anyways DA V1 is for consoles only so you'll have to emulate it. Controller controls made me vomit so I couldn't finish this one
>SCDA V2
On PC and 7th gen consoles. Buggy as fuck on PC. Had to drop it because it had an annoying issue.
>Conviction
Turn off your brain and name swap Sam Fisher for Jason Bourne or John Wick. From a light and sound meter to "when you can't be seen, the screen becomes black and white" and the dreaded "crouch to be completly silent". Again, don't bother trying to understand or even follow the story, just silent headshot everyone. Probably the easiest SC game out of them all.
>Blacklist
This game pisses me off because it's still conviction but with a coat of "sowwy guys, we listened, we swear" and it's the same bullshit only now only half of the missions end in a loud section. There is an AC130 section. TWICE.

Blacklist fans really think that ubisoft listened simply because they re-added the ability to carry corpses and hide them. Something you could do since the very first installment of the game. Mark and Execute? "Uhmmm, just don't use it sweatey?" Half of the levels taking place in daylight? "Who cares". Light and sound systems? Variable speed systems? "lol, lmao"

people like those are the reason the inevitable SC1 Remake will just have the basic systems ripped from Blacklist put in a nice little Unreal Engine 5 coat of paint.
Anonymous No.718996450
The first three at the very least. I've tried emulating DAv1 but it never goes well but at least I have an Xbox S I can borrow for it.

It's the weakest big stealth franchise with nothing that really makes it stand out, but it's still relevant just because of the rarity of stealth games in general

I always thought Double Agent (360) looked cool as fuck, it has the coolest stealth suits and giving Sam the buzz cut unironically worked for me back then, it was I guess before it became completely overdone.

Also having a prison break mission was cool. But I never finished it.

>SAR
Pretty solid but definitely a little dated gameplay wise. Everything feels a tad stiff and the mission alarms can be very unforgiving.
>PT
Feels like SC 1.5, which isn't a bad thing. More memorable missions in my opinion.
>CT
Fluid gameplay and plenty of leeway on how you accomplish your goals. Peak of the series.
>DA
CT 1.5 but felt more restricting. Play the previous gen version.
>Conviction
Fun for a one time playthrough, but it isn't Splinter Cell.
>Blacklist
Overhated because Michael Ironside wasn't in it. Game was a step up from Conviction in every regard. Probably as a good as a "modern" SC could be unless they full go back to the classic approach for the remake.

CT > BL > DA(old) > PT > SAR = DA(new) > CV
