I am I think halfway through it so far. I turned on instant kills because the combat started to get repetitive. I guess I did the Alan Wake DLC by accident and killed the Darkness boss. That area was interesting and it was nice having a more classic horror enemy to deal with. I wish it focused more on needing to deal with the objects and them having a gimmick to deal with rather than just shooting a bunch of the same hiss enemies over and over again.

It's fun and good but it's no masterpiece. The janitor Ahti is great and you also get janitor overalls after completing his quests. There' lot of Finnish references which I, as a Finn, enjoyed

My biggest gripe with the setting is that literally everything ties back to the astral plane. I just think a SCP knockoff should have crazy shit from dozens of completely contradictory or unknown sources. It makes the world feel a lot smaller when a single phenomena is responsible for everything supernatural.

It's a solid game with a few flaws. Worth a play though, especially with a nice pc where you can crank the graphics. It's a shame the game doesn't get even weirder than it does, it's a world of near infinite possibilities and it often feels like it's holding back the more wild ideas so it can keep being a cool third person shooter with some powers thrown in. The upgrade system is pointless, you only keep the very best upgrades and toss the rest into the garbage, the enemy variety isn't quite there most of the game and if you are prone to getting lost you might get bored reclearing the filler enemies that repopulate places as you figure out where the next zone to explore starts. The exploration is good though, flying around and looking for new places to access was enjoyable since jessie controls very well, the fights are often fast and brutal but never quite getting to the point of being bullshit, all her powers and gun types have their place. I was never much into alan wake so when we got alan wake 2 instead of control 2 I was kinda meh about the whole thing.

I've played the game through twice and aside from a couple sideboss runbacks, it's really not that challenging so long as you fully utilize what they give you.

It's been compared to Dark Souls in it's time because of how it punishes mistakes and has annoying runbacks at times but I literally never felt like it was unfair.

Yes that was on console. On PC it's easier to just soar around and really lean into the power fantasy but desu, on console I felt the same after awhile. If you're ACTUALLY skilled at games, it's not that hard on either but of course shooters with heavy movement and lots of optional attacks are easiest to excel at on PC.

nta but I agree with you. Control's mid to late game becomes a fucking slog. It actually starts very early on but during that time it doesn't feel so invasive yet. They bother you too much with the respawning enemies in the environment every time you revisit an area or hit a safe zone.
The solution for me was to get into the accessibility options and turn on cheating like one hit kills, and maybe turn them off when I encounter something interesting. The game is mid and the story has interesting parts, but it doesn't go all the way. It leaves you with too many questions, even with the DLC.

Maybe a controversial opinion, I like Poets of the Fall but their inclusion in the games has started to feel a bit rote. Instead of a fun surprise, I'm now expecting the big bombastic musical sequence at some point when I play, and it takes away from the experience a little.

Idk if there's anything in Control that's really woke, and with how it's obvious they wanted to write a quippy "that just happened" type main character I was more or less primed to get pissed off at any hint of it, the closest I can think of is the security chief being a negress and that's honestly like early 2000s level "woke", whoever picked that for that character probably does have a political agenda but it's not drastically affecting the plot.

Anyway I've always loved both SCP and Remedy games since either started existing so when I first got Control I played it for like 9 hours straight lol, but it ended up taking me like over a year to beat because it does kind of lose momentum as you go, the regular combat gets tedious and the the novelty of having a professional game with SCP type stories in it kinda wears off since many of them would be considered low tier or even might have been rejected when the original site was still big. There are still some cool sequences and lore in every part of the game if you like surreal horror type stuff though

Total kino, and pretty decent gameplay. It's a bit of tps metroidvania, the exploration being key, with some very light Soulsborne elements. People try to meme on the combat and while it's true that the telekinesis might be a bit overtuned you still have to compliment it with your gun(s). I liked building it for headshots/weakpoints. Interesting locations, lore and great graphics. One of the better games in the past half-decade.

I've played them all. I actually played Control first (excluding Max Payne if you count that) and I'm glad I did, I loved it so much I immediately picked up Alan Wake I and II and Quantum Break. Enjoyed all of them but not as much as Control. I prefer viewing it through the lens of a Control-centric universe, it's far more interesting to me as a mysterious paranatural world with quasi-scientific explanations, with the Alan Wake incident being one part of that. This game is very interesting but they dropped the ball when it came to the enemy design. Instead of spamming the boring hiss enemies they could have had an object of power like a toybox that brings action figures and toy soldiers to life as an excuse to spawn enemies.
Hartman is a great example, there are so many ways to have corrupted monsters to fight and introduce some variety to the generic enemies
