Except no, the threats are still real even if things were tilted to exist. Berdly, if we were not there, could have actually made the Roaring happen, if Noelle was willing and she was, she'd be able to do incredible damage to people under the delusion she was in a dream, If someone else entered the closet at School, you'd have massive issues, same with how in chapter 2, the library had Noelle kidnapped and alone and in distress, and Berdly power tripping like a motherfucker causing actual harm. Even in 3, Tenna was basically willing to torture and kill the team, and it took YOU changing the channel to escape.

I can see the narrative potential of doe incest and I think Toby wouldn't be opposed to doing given the weird route. It would explain why Noelle is weirdly pillable (abuse victims tend to be repeatedly abused) and her attraction to Susie is apparently based on fact she resembles Dess to a degree. However, it doesn't seem especially likely to me. It fits, but it seems odd with the larger picture in ways I can't articulate.

Actually, I think that might be likely. We always hear how cool Asriel is around the townies but practically nil when it comes to Dess. Her being seen as cool can easily be because Noelle and Kris were young and impressionable kids and maybe Asriel being a dork, so it's not like it's a high bar there. The game does have a theme of escapism, so Dess could had been coping hard by using the Dark World to escape her somewhat dismal life. From what we can see with Catty and Bratty, ladies seem to like him but he sounds kinda like a pushover. It wouldn't surprise me if maybe Asriel pity dated Dess or kept her "hanging. Like perhaps he wanted to keep the relationship platonic but didn't want to romantically reject Dess to avoid hurting her feelings, so he just tried to ignore the subject, but in doing so, made Dess hopeful.
