never played it. personally I really like smt 1/2, the jp wizardry games, and grimrock. my problem is a lot of dungeon crawlers don't have a cool aesthetic, but the ones that do really shine.

I liked the first game's aesthetics but did not enjoy the gameplay or level design. I assume the second game polished some things but I seriously doubt compile heart made the best dungeon crawler of all time

I beat the Mary Skelter 2, and i must say: it's pretty average for a dungeon crawler wizardry type JRPG.
It doesn't care if it's going to waste your time with boring ass dungeons or anything, plus the fan service is gooning shit and i hate it.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBut, i was in the mood for something really grindy and i got my money's worth out of Mary Skelter 2. Now i can't even touch a game like that, last one i beat was Class of Heroes 1 (from the remaster collection) and i hated it.

They fixed/improved pretty much everything they could within the game's framework, though there's still issues like certain skills and jobs being much better than others and there not being any incentive to use your full party as opposed to making half of them permanent benchwarmers. They fixed that one in the third game by splitting everyone into separate parties and forcing you to use every single one, though the tradeoff there is being unable to stick multiple characters with the same jobs into one party.

It may have been Sony's fault, they had no issues doing unambiguous loli endings even a couple years before with Dragon Star Varnir. Rapunzel also had a route in the original Love Prison Tower and she wasn't changed there.

>They fixed/improved pretty much everything they could within the game's framework
They literally broke half the game's classes and made them almost useless while making the others overpowered.
>there not being any incentive to use your full party as opposed to making half of them permanent benchwarmers.
Because only half of your party is any good. Liberos and Mages suck absolute balls in 2 and Finale and Archers are only a little better.
>They fixed that one in the third game by splitting everyone into separate parties and forcing you to use every single one
This was even more aggravating. Their solution to breaking the first game's class balance was to just force you to use the shitty ones, and as a result both Jack and Toh have a couple characters at most that basically carry them while Clara has none and as a result is a major slog to play as.

Yeah, you kept the blood level after each battle so you could just enter Massacre mode turn 1 every time if you ended a battle in it and weren't corrupted enough to possibly trigger Blood Skelter.

So when is CH going to go back to making proper fanservice games now that Sony have fucked off?
Anonymous No.718993871

It was objectively more balanced than 2. Mages were good for crowd control and quickly clearing encounters. Mortal Force is mostly a meme and doesn't do much against bosses, especially for its SP cost, so they take a more supportive role while the Fighters do the heavy lifting with their single target burst damage. Liberos were actually decent jacks of all trades with supportive spells and decent AOE options while being bulkier than Mages and Scientists. 2 completely gutted Mages and Liberos by forcing Chant on all their best options, meaning they're now just crappy support at best, while Fighters got all the crowd control options while still keeping their single target burst damage, and Scientists got all the game's best spells through Scholar, making them categorically superior to the Mages while having broken Jail Roulette enhancement skills. I have no idea where people get this idea that 2 "fixed" the class balance, because it broke it cleanly in half. I kept more or less one of each class type in my playthrough of the Nightmares remake, while in 2, there's a reason the "meta" class comp is 2 Fighters and 2 Scientists and an Archer, or even a third Fighter because they are easily the best in the game.

I miss when they made games like this, solid games that utilize fanservice in a creative way. Having the girls lick each other to prolonge exploration without needing to rest up for HP and managing the berserk system as their clothes fly off, I mean it's not much but it makes the mundane dungeon crawling a little more interesting for sure.
Any other games like this that I might have missed?

There's no real evidence Sony have actually rescinded their polices, they only look good now because Nintendo and Xbox are worse. If Eastasiasoft had any confidence they could release Tokyo Clanpool uncensored on Playstation, they would likely have done so by now as their games are typically multiplat anyway. Remember that the Neptunia Re;Birth games are tame by ecchi game standards as well as the rest of Compile Heart's pre-2020 catalog, and Re;Birth 1 already released on PS5 as ReVerse in 2020. Nintendo blocking them just shows how bad they've become, not that Snoy has gotten any better. Just last year they censored fucking Princess Maker and even extended their policies to bonus/promo material by censoring Tsukihime R's artbook. There's currently little reason to believe they've actually changed.

There are plenty of games like that on the PS Store. Using AI generated shovelware that like 2 people have probably even played is not exactly proving any point. I have seen the word hentai in a game's title so many times when browsing the store.

Anonymous No.718994425
>>718994239
Stellar Blade is 1). not comparable to what Compile Heart and other moege ecchi publishers deal in, and 2). literally censored on release day, so it's already a bad example just going off that. And they censored Princess Maker 2 and Tsukihime R right afterwards, so clearly it wasn't indicative of any actual change in policy.
>>718994249
This shit is on Playstation and Steam too. But they'll still block actual ecchi games because fuck you! This isn't even just the lack of quality control any more, it's ANTI-quality control!

If this is what you're looking for, you can try the Genkai Tokki games, the way they utilize the ecchi is so over the top sometimes it's hilarious. Also try Gal*Gun. All of them are on Switch are except for the last Genkai Tokki entry Castle Panzers which is doomed to eternally be a Japan-only PS4 exclusive. If it's specifically dungeon crwalers/DRPGs you're looking for, Moero Chronicle and and Moero Crystal in the Genkai Tokki series are that, but gameplay style shifts with Seven Pirates. Also try Dungeon Travelers if you can get your hands on it.

Yes. Official and in your face with it as well. The main couple are star-crossed lovers who are based on the Cowherd and Weaver Girl story which inspired the Tanabata.

The story and character writing (and the fanservice) are probably the best in the trilogy and among the best of Compile Heart games. The gameplay is a mixed bag and I would argue Nightmares is much better on that front. Finale is both better and worse in some ways.

It's "the two being together screws everything up on a cosmic level", doesn't get more star-crossed lovers than that. They don't undo the circumstances either, they have to willingly let one of them die and revive her later.

Being star-crossed lovers means their love is bound to fail no matter what. But from what you've said, they actually make it work and end up together.
