only the original is acceptable. it's the only version where you can recognize the important objects in frame from the thumbnail alone. the shot is of a soldier in the middle of his fallen comrades. the gravestones represent people (duh, that's what gravestones always do). they are as important as the living character standing among them.
the HD collection overbloomed lighting seems to want to highlight only the protagonist, missing the point. no doubt if you had given these hacks a bigger budget they would have produced an abomination but instead they only had time to make it slightly shitty.
the remake is what you get when you let a nudev do a thorough job. it loses any sense of composition. whoever came up with the idea of using bright gravestones and then put a hundred hours into adding details to the grass has NO IDEA what he was even working on. the fact that Snake and the gravestones are INTENTIONALLY a similar shade in the original is so painfully obvious. anyone who doesn't see it simply is not looking. only a complete hack would destroy that obvious connection between the character and the gravestones by making them bright. the gravestones now could hardly be more different from the character. they are still featureless while the character is full of details. they are now bright while the character is still dark. the gravestones are mostly blurred by DOF while the character is sharp.
you would have to get really creative to destroy the shot any further. maybe grow the gravestones so they're bigger than the character? maybe remove the gravestones from the left of the image so the character is saluting away from the remaining stones? dial the depth of field up further so the character is the only object we can recognize? for fuck's sake. crash already.
