Pixel Remastered
Are these any good if I only ever played the original PS1 version of FFV?

I heard 3 and 4 were decent and got totally new scripts?

Never played VI but heard it's "the coolest" of the ps1 originals?

Just play the originals in Japanese.

There's a bunch of hipsters who pretend they're bad, but with the exception of possibly FF6, these are the best way to play these.

FF6 is debateable and it's a toss-up between original SNES or Pixel Remaster (it used to be SNES topped it until the patch that fixed the magitek intro and the music issue during the last fight)

They completely knee cap any sense of difficulty these games had, with the exception of FF4, which was babified for Americans.
Soundtrack, art direction, etc are amazing, but if you want to actually be challenged and have meaningful choices in combat, these kinda suck.

Previously sure, but you can alter the rate of various mechanics to match or be harder. Was added later.

VI is censored and there are probably other issues knowing modern SE. Just emulate the originals with some of the more accurate translations. Hell, they even have some bugfix patches you can apply too, cause lord knows how broken a lot of the early FFs are.

6 is a weird case because the only non-censored version is the OG japanese version on super famicom.
The original 3(6) SNES version had more covered up summons.

And every version past SNES/Super Famicom had Celes getting punched while prisoner censored because Japanese ratings system changes in between original release and the GBA (and after) releases, where it would increase the age rating of the game (reducing sales), so it was easier to just change the scene to maintain the age rating.

So Pixel Remaster 6 is the same as every version after the original SNES/Super Famicom release in that regard.

No, that changed back in the GBA version, and every version after it. Did not start in Pixel Remaster.
Anonymous No.718989698
unironically, the PR version of FF2 is the best way to play it, because you can boost your stat growth, and turn off encounters, essentially turning the monster closets from "Fuck you, you picked the wrong door" to a mild inconvenience.
Anonymous No.718989748
the 2.5d remasters REALLY fucking suck. great way of taking all the soul out of pixelated sprites

How did you even tolerate the loading screens for the PS version? Also the originals were SNES.

A little too nazi like, and given the rise of authoritarianism in the west by conservatives in recent years , SE didn't want to touch that rail.

>>718989680
Wrong, they only did the change in PR, GBA still had the fist pump.

>The introduction of the Nazi salute resulted in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States, especially after the declaration of war against Italy and Germany in response to the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. The Bellamy salute was replaced with saluting the flag by placing the right hand over the heart when Congress amended the Flag Code on December 22, 1942.
Turns out the nazi salute is bad, because of the nazis. c

The pixel remasters are the objectively the best versions of old FF aside from FF4, where I give the PSP version the edge since it has the GBA extras (the only meanful extras that got cut in the pixel remasters) and it comes with a (shitty) sequel.
FF6 has a ton of romhacks and bug fix patches that not even the pixel remaster has but I'm going to compare vanilla to vanilla versions here.
I think FF1 on the NES is worth the experience just because it's a perfect example of a game constructed together with sticks and glue.

I just played through the pixel version of 1 and started 2. I'd say if you want to play the famicom games, the pixel remasters are the best way. They were made when you owned a dozen games for your NES and not 300 on Steam, so play the remasters unless you don't value your time. The SNES games hold up well enough that the remasters are unnecessary and you should just emulate. That said the original translation for IV is an abomination, so if theres not a translation patch, then maybe the remaster is fine

Because preservation does matter. And her hair was green for reasons valid at the time. Usually bit count related hash limitations. The beauty of it being on PC is I can bring her in line with later canon media representation when I feel like it, and you don't have to. I am sorry your autism compels you to try and get me to fall in line, but I will not be.
