most mediocre slop ive ever played, played a ton of metroidvanias but hollow knight just felt the most limiting when it came to combat options for example. a nice artstyle dosent save a shallow game

God I wanna boycott this shit just from the arrogance and ineptitude of these fuckers.
SEX WITH MY GIRLFRIEND (male), PHANTOM, WHILST HO--Wait, this is a Hollow Knight thread, not a Silksong thread.
My mistake, carry on shitting on the game like a retard.

I love Metroid games, but the backtracking in Hollow Knight just annoyed me. It seemed like I was always having to go back and forth from the far side of the world to the other, to the two places where you use your specific ability. Maybe I just don't know the game as well as I do Zero Mission or some such, but Metroid games feel way smoother in their backtracking.

I assume he means how it's almost entirely linear. It's pretty much a 2D Sekiro with a Metroidvania style map, but there's not much running back to old areas with new powers.

Vania's only claim to fame is that they copied metroid so much the fans came up with a term to describe the castlevania games that copied metroid. Hell, there were already other Metroid inspired games during the NES that had RPG elements like Faxanadu and Rygar

Unless you get somehow get lost to the point of not realizing where you can make progress, there is very little backtracking in Hollow Knight.
Whenever you get a new ability you just fast travel to the closest point that allows you to beeline straight towards new progress and new areas and it's usually a very short and simple procedure there before you're already in a new area consuming new content.
