Rogue/Thief/Whatever I just like the usual aesthetics + dual daggers + being a sneaky dude

In general, I enjoy being a jewish merchant, but certain classes are shit in different games. Like being a thief is cool in Skyrim, but sucks in Morrowind. The solid choice is usually warrior asshole.

Whatever sticks, usually I play as a knight in fantasy settings but sometimes they suck. Never go full rogue or archer.

For some reason Mage is always my last choice

I always check the ranged class first but then get disappointed on how little damage it does in comparison to your typical melee or wizard, and how limited your choices are when it comes to equipment and alternate ways of dealing with enemies.
And then I go for my full playthrough of a spellwarrior of some kind.

>dark magic + melee
Failing that, wizard/mage is cool

depends on the game, but in tes I usually go survivalist. hand to hand, no armor, alteration, destruction, acrobatics, athletics, etc. basically I don't use any weapons or tools.

Some games magic is just unfun, needlessly complex or unpowered unless you follow a certain build.
Human warrior builds always work though, always have good loot tailored for them and are always fun.

Pure Wizard for my first time through any RPG (for fallout, it was using science, repair and energy weapons primarily)

You can kind of gauge how much thought the devs put into the build variety by doing this. Plus, I like magic as a theme.
Games like Baldur's Gate and Fallout 1 are horribly imbalanced against a mostly magic playthrough at the start. (seriously, a level 1 mage has one cast of two spells each rest. otherwise you're smacking things with a stick or throwing rocks)

Morrowind is heavily weighted in favor of magic, to the point that not using it is a challenge run only possible through some weird manipulation of encumbrance and acrobatics.

Elden Ring is one that I'd put nicely in the middle. Don't come at me with kitchen sink buffs and comet azur one-shots. Those characters are the glassiest of glass cannons, run out of steam after one shot, and are prone to missing if the enemy is slightly agile.
They're Megumin.

I'm pretty bored with how magic is always some flavor of elemental damage. I wish they would get more creative, necromancy is cool but it's seldomly done right. why not something stupid like a fart mage.

ADOM had a merchant class and it fucking sucked.
Even the farmer, which was already a meme class, was better because you had a bonus to the polearm skill from swinging scythes and using pitchforks all day, could grow very useful crops that aid you during your journey and had basic smithing prowess to improve metal weapons and armor.
