Learn to play Dwarf Fortress and you'll always have something to play.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning on ASCII and the Steam version is even better.
You can still get the free version, but I'd suggest getting Steam, since it's been updated and even has multithreading.
DFHack is also updated consistently and has shit like Stonesense built in.
The game never stops giving.
