If your mate is a healer, he's more than likely doing it out of necessity and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of other bad mechanics.
The modern form of the "healer" is an abhorrent installation, worse so because it has been made mandatory in almost all games by stripping all others of the means to heal/support themselves, while also rendering said healer incapable of doing anything but healing. It is disgusting, inorganic forced teamwork that will cause a negative snowball effect if even one person fails to do their "job".

Everyone should be responsible for their own healing alongside an ability to fight, with some having the ability to throw out some emergency healing on others in between dropping meteors. True flexible teamwork.

I've always played tank, in every guild the healers have either been a woman, gay or tranny.
It's funny because it seems like a meme but in years of tanking, it's been true.
