Any TF3 made today would be soulless, sanitized and generic

If Valve doesn't give put out an SDK for linux users to make maps and shit then this is mostly pointless.
(Mostly because getting tf2 decoupled from middleware that is owned by hostile third parties [Havok from Microsoft and Bink Video/Miles Audio which got bought by Epic] is a good thing but doesn't address the current actual issue TF2 has being that there's a drought for developers and the only niggas still making maps for the game are quasi-Valve employees who have been doing it for 10 years now)

A source 2 port of TF2 might be good, but it might destroy the artstyle of the game as well. They'd have to maintain the graphics 1:1 with only minor tweaks like slight improvement to smoke etc. decals. The only reason for the port being to fix engine-specific bugs and performance issues.

If they made TF3 it would have to offer something that isnโ€™t offered by TF2 and isnโ€™t offered by the upcoming Deadlock. This means it would be primarily aimed at a casual audience and would need something more or unique to not be a drain on the playerbase of TF2.

You have: TF2 - class based casual shooter

counterstrike 2 - mechanically heavy comp round-based shooter

Deadlock - mechanically heavy comp hero shooter

TF3?? - ????

Valve isnโ€™t a cashgrab company when it comes to their actual releases. They might have business models made to get a ton of money from you, but they donโ€™t release a ton of slop all the time to quickly make a buck. Someone is probably thinking L4D2, which is the only example and was done through a third-party publisher one time in around 30
years. Genuinely, genuinely, I want you to think of at least an art-style that could facilitate a unique for TF3 before you even think about the idea of them secretly working on it alongside Deadlock.

I get basically nobody here for any of these conversations is a developer, and double that on with TF2 is fucking PLAGUED with self appointed artstyle experts.
But you do realize that there's nothing stopping them from using the same shading algorithms and texture aesthetics for a theoretical Source 2 port.

TF2 became a Frankenstein monster patchwork and is generally a mess (I started in 2007 with the Orange Box), so I would welcome a new class based shooter like TF. Hell it might revive the genre, nowadays they're STILL trying to copy Overwatch with the cancerous 6v6 holy trinity format.

Donโ€™t care. Finish Artifact Foundry.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

I get the new Steam Client server browser sucks, but CS2 and Dota 2 can still be server browsed.
The only one that can't afaik is Steam Home.
Also this is ignoring the vast overwhelming majority of the TF2 playerbase can't fucking stand most of the existing "community" servers.

I mean for me it's pretty convenient that I've only really had to care about two multiplayer games all this time.
I'm more annoyed in the 20 years it's been out the genre of Class Based Shooter is basically dead and seemingly it's the last game before they decided to start making multiplayer games not fun intentionally, and they all come with rootkits.
I do miss making maps since I switched to linux, however.

Valve DID implement these balance changes in the lead-up to MYM, so they were indeed intending for them to improve the competitive balance
However they also ignored a shitton of compfag feedback, and even the compfags who literally visited Valve HQ to give advice were surprised afterwards

>sandman: literally nobody used it in comp
>caber: literally nobody used it in comp
>ambassador: basically only relevant in highlander and all the comp spy mains loved it (and spy is a borderline irrelevant class so nobody else cared)
>a gazillion weapons still banned in comp for being either OP or unfun got zero changes (jarate, mad milk, quickfix etc.)
Basically the only nerf that compfags actually wanted AND got was the base jumper. It's the ONLY example I can think of where compfags actually thought the weapon was OP, the weapon was relevant in comp, and it got nerfed in a way that compfags wanted.
One of the nerfs was even the fucking righteous bison.
