It really is a thing millennials do. Even boomers dont really care if their kids dont get how a record player or the old tv works.

I'm a dad and I have 2 - 3 hours a week of free time left. (actual free time not me posting on 4chan on the toilet at work).

My son is not at the age yet to get serious about sport. But honestly I would need to cut not only my free time out if he did, but cut down on quality time with my wife as well.

I'm already considering working fewer hours and taking a pay cut just to spend more time with my family. But yeah free time doesn't exist anymore.

On the bright side. You stop caring that you don't have free time to do anything. It sucked the first year. But you get used to it. And your child is worth it. When he calls you daddy and hugs you because you're his favorite person. Fuck the games or movies I would have played instead.

This is true. My boomer parents barely ever worked and just got drunk and partied with their friends all the time and ignored their kids.
Boomers let TV and the early internet raise their kids.
Instead of iPads we got 90's-2000's TV and eventually napster, limewire, ebaumsworld.
Raw dogging the internet.
I remember frequenting Funcoland and buying and selling tons of old games because it wasn't just "download flavor of the month on Steam".
No cell phones.
Had to actually hang out with people to socialize.
I had to jack off to physical magazines for cryin' out loud! Those things took work to get!
Porn also was hard to find on the web.
You think AskJeeves was servin' up quality content?
There was no "pornhub".
We had to work to coom.

Millenials are the last "raw dogging it" generation. Zoomers are simply spoiled, and it shows.

Millennials are reaching an age where when they talk to zoomoids they realise they're on the 'old' side of the generational divide now.
When ou talk to a zoomer at work you will invariably find yourself saying something similar to what your parents said to you in you late teens to early 20s, and each time it happens it's like an icy dagger to the heart.

I imagine this always happens to every genreation, but millenials are the first generation for it to happen to on the internet.

This, ngl. We're universally known as the tech support generation. Boomers didn't bother learning, zoomers were born with the tablets, and Gen X were too stoned to give a shit about anything. We're the generation that had to learn that looking up sex on google will crash your computer, and you'll need to do five formats per year on your home computer yourself. Gen Z and alphas can't even create a fucking folder on their desktop.

And beyond that, I'll use my boomer father as an example. He's a life time cook, been a chef a few times. And yet I don't have a single clue how to cook anything because he never thought me how to do anything. Boomers didn't care about sharing their skills and careers with their kids, and they're also the first generation to become grand parents and be completely absent from their grandchildrens' lives.

Gen X are still too stoned to give a fuck.

This is very true, my son barely knows his grandparents because they're too busy doing nothing or flying down to Florida for half the year. We learned early on never to depend on them for baby sitting because they'll always find an excuse, they just don't care. But those same people used to send me to my grandparents all the time and I was super close to them, and them to us. Boomers just don't give a shit about their kids.

Because you accepted playing 20 years of Fortnite as normal development and then act like this whenever people who used to go out of their way to learn and navigate multiple systems and gaming niches feel like you're an idiot.

You have an incredibly rich and detailed internet at your fingertips at all times. If you're 14-18 and have 8500 hours in Fortnite but can't identify a controller that isn't from the two Fortnite-playing consoles you owned, then you're borderline incapable. Kids who "grew up" with this stuff can identify a Dreamcast controller despite less than 10 million of them existing worldwide. People who were raised on an SNES knew what an NES, Master System, and Atari were, at least more often than not, and they did so with little more than access to a magazine.

Simply put, had everything not been so easily accessible, you'd have been someone who never had played a game. But you got roped in as the "modern audience".

School sports games are events that family is expected to show up to. If you don't come, your son will be an outcast. Most of them involve parents helping events or fundraising and even handling trips, especially if travel is involved for things such as state events. Having a successful and active child can result in the parents having to be incredibly active to match them. This is not a bad thing, just at times unexpected.

True. You could say the same about making them handicapped-accessible of course - another comparatively modern thing - and then you're entering 'just tear out the whole thing and rebuild it all from scratch' kind of money and effort.

Everyone does. I work with boomers who have recently taken to complaining about zoomers being unable to read analog clocks. They used to be bewildered that my millennial ass didn't know the conversions for their archaic measurements that fell out of use before I was born

Youre thinking of boomers, theyre the ones getting mad at the 11 year old who doesnt instinctively know how to tie certainknots or repair small motors
Millenials are getting freaked out by the sudden realization that the last console you had before leaving home for college or basic or whatever came out 25 years ago and controllers havnt had a cord since before your teenager was born

Well, except they are usually even more retarded than people used to be back then.

I'm 25 and long since accepted I'll never have kids but recently I've really wanted to pass my skills and experiences down to the next generation. If I ever make higher than survival wages I'm going to start some kind of dojo charging $10 a class.
It'll teach swordsmanship, slinging, lockpicking, sign language, shaving with a straight razor, car repairs, magic tricks, rigging a deck of cards, that sort of thing. Call it some shit like "The Art of the Modern Swashbuckler, Cheaper than Babysitting" and give some flouridated Alphas a few cool tricks to show off.
Well, I guess we'd be onto Betas or something by then.
