Valve invented loot boxes and destroyed gaming with their greed, exploiting gamer addiction for profit. But there's still a lot of people on here with Stockholm syndrome that think Valve isn't evil.

I am almost sure that some Korean MMO did it before Valve.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

Uhm akchually Badabing Quest Online XIII which was released exclusively in Korean Internet cafes in 2008 and ended operations in 2012 introduced lootboxes first, so Valve is completely blameless in all of this and didn't make this predatory mechanism popular or anything like that.

lootboxes existed before maplestory. japan had tons of flip phone
exclusive gacha that never came to america or europe or anywhere else.
you can also consider tcg gacha as yugioh, pokemon, and other games

It's sunk cost fallacy. People who's only games are tied to their Steam account, they have to believe that despite the DRM Steam will always be "good" because otherwise it means admitting they've sunk so much money into DRM.

Valve makes some high quality products but like every other video game company, they're not your friend.
