If you let the low health sound go off in retro games, you damn right I'm rewinding to avoid it. It's a humiliation ritual. I thought about it and it doesn't really bother me in FromSoftware games to retrace my steps after a death, but it bothers the shit out of me in older games. Maybe because the deaths were more "earned" in modern games. In older games like Ninja Gaiden NES if you move forward you could get hit by a spawning enemy and be dropped into a hole. Punished because the system it was designed for had shitty spawning mechanics.
What about Rare's DonkeyKong SNES games, the hitboxes for some them are dogshit. The mine cart levels do not deserve your respect. I feel nothing but happiness rewinding SNES Donkey Kong games dogshit hitboxes and mine cart stages. Now rewinding in well constructed games is a pussyout bitchmade thing like NES Mario 1 and Mario 3.
