Honest thoughts on Sonic Adventure 2... 24 years later?

More bad than good but the good is pretty great and the bad is only tedious at worst so overall decent.
Having a level select and being able to just replay the levels you want after beating the game is the best thing it has going for it so you can replay only the good whenever you want.

Speed stages are the most fun and good for collecting rings.
Treasure Hunting is fun too and good for getting animals for chao
Mech Shooting is good too and great for collecting drives. Usually playing Iron Gate to get 10 of one drive color.

The PC versions are terrible and have broken controls/rail physics. Anyone playing the steam versions without mods is guaranteed to have a bad time.

honestly, i didn't like it as much as the first game. still a good game but i prefer 1.
speed stages were still fun and the game generally had better physics, but treasure hunting and shooting just weren't as good as their counterparts. plus the removal of field stages is a massive bummer, i loved those. also fuck you i liked big fishing, his story is like 10 mins long
an adventure 3 that took the best of both really could have been amazing, but we are long past that point, it just cant be the same anymore.

The game is alright but SA1's character selection was better than SA2's hero/dark format. Being forced to swap characters to progress in the story was a stupid idea, the non-Sonic/Shadow stages were either too long (compared to SA1's Knuckles/E-102 stages) or too annoying (like that mandatory car minigame).

Iizuka directed SA1, SA2, Heroes and Shadow. Heroes is basically SA3, Shadow is SA4, Sonic 06 is SA5.

Still the best Sonic game, though i can't say i was ever a fan of the 2D ones so i can't say much for those.

Shadow is just Heroes 2, and World Adventure is SA3.

Kino enough that there's a reason it's like Ocarina of Time in that it still gets direct sequels in an otherwise episodic franchise.

Shadow Generations litteraly a year ago. Plot heavily tied into Adventure 2 as did Shadow 05 and Heroes was a light follow up to it.

Its fun and getting top ranks is a fair challenge. In Tails/Eggman levels I have to turn off the game audio tho because the lock on noise is annoying.

This game has grown on me although i still prefer Adventure 1, honestly the sound mixing which was made worse when it was ported to HD is the worst thing about this game. It makes the Mech stages and some of the Treasure Hunting levels hell on the ears.

SA1 and SA2 were on the same engine. There are three iterations of the Chao Garden: SA1 DC, SA2 DC, and SA2B GC / SADX GC. They threw the engine out after SA2.

Sonic hass been a budget franchise post Unleashed and so they don't have the time and money to expand it beyond what Adventure 2 did and Chao autists will stick with Adventure 2 if a new garden is worse.

Had the best voice actors and characterizations. Sega dropping these guys, especially Humphrey, was a HUGE fuck up.
