How were boomers able to beat this game?

Boomers mastered an ancient technique created by the old tibetan monks called "holding the run button and pressing the jump button with one finger".

Where did this "game I literally beat as a 6 year old is difficult" maymay come from? I can understand if it was DKC2, but the first one? The only level that might be difficult is platform peril.

Reminder that Donkey Kong Country SNES trilogy has worse hitboxes than Dark Souls 2.

zoomers and alphas have completely fried their attention span and cannot stick with any game that has even the slightest bit of friction. as a result games like these are completely incomprehensible to them. There's a webm that's floated around here, I don't have it saved, of some coon streamer girl who just sits and continuously rewinds super metroid on the switch NSO emulator every time she gets killed while making a disgusted face and rolling her eyes. that is how zoomers play these games if they play them at all, and the only reason they would do it in the first place is so that they can post it on social media to appear quirky.

you don't play retro games poser, fucking kys.

the last third of this game is hard, but not in a good way. If I'm honest the game could've been shorter and would be better for it.

I agree Gen Z and Gen Alpha have diminished and severe cognitive decline that include but not limited to: attention span of a goldfish, severe lack of self-awareness, media illiteracy, illiteracy in general, failed mathematics comprehension, and ADHD. Donkey Kong Country SNES trilogy still have bizarre hitboxes.

Back then there wasn't an attitude of "change everything to make me happy" because participation trophies weren't handed out like candy, yet.
Games didn't get patched so we played what we got and could actually handle adversity and 1 control layout.
Accessibility wasn't mandatory, so we put up with things and grew stronger as a people.

Zoomers grew up complaining about everything and being spoonfed bling and colors and loot, so they don't understand working hard for a tiny reward.
If zoomers beat a game and unlocked 1 skin they would freak the fuck out and scream about it online.
Back then we took that 1 skin and bragged about it at school.

TL;DR Kids today are spoiled rotten. Fact.
What's the saying?

DKC1 isn't even hard. There's no timer so you can stop and plan most jumps unless it's a minecart level or that one with the batteries.

I heard alphas are getting in touch with retro because theyre being taught what a scam modern AAA gaming is. Zoomers have embodied the free app store and web browser world of gaming, and that has one great effect that unties the idea of a good looking game needing popularity or the logo of a big company to make it good or fun. Fueled with those teachings I hope that alphas help either bring us into an era of glorifying good games and rejecting the shite or at the very least kill the system by pirating everything and causing another vidya market crash where quality and passion will rise from the ashes.

This isn’t a hard game
Only finding the secrets is hard because most of them are hidden in gotcha death pits that normal players would avoid
2 and 3 are the same, with the only true difficulty spikes appearing in the extra levels

you're projecting. dkc games have pretty much perfect controls and movement while most nes games play like shit which makes them unbearable. this must be your first 2d platformer.

This is literally the easiest game in the trilogy, you falseflagging nigger. Even Castlevania IV, Act Raiser and Aero the Fucking Bat are harder than this.
Unless you exclusively played first party Nintendo games on the system like a bitch (exclusing Super Punch Out) you would never call this game hard

if you fags actually played retro games(and not just know about them via your homo streamers), you would never qualify retro titles based on their difficulty. That's how I know you're not retro gaming, because you need to love and appreciate the craft of making good vidya to indulge in them, not just spamm hurr durr this ones hard but the other ones not so much, like it's a fucking souls thread.

fucking kys losers.

You played, failed, restarted, played again. Replaying maps because you game over'd eventually led to you mastering the game and in the process you'd often find all sorts of secrets that end up making the game easier.

Honestly, slowly discovering all of the secrets on the maps that let you blow through them with a bunch of extra lives was the best part. The game was super forgiving if you actually spent time to figure it out, but zoomers are denied that experience because instead they just use the built-in savescum feature to repeat the same jump until they get the square peg through the round hole.

Ever heard of quarter muncher? Arcade games like Dragon's Lair were designed explicitly to pad out gameplay hours with humiliation ritual game overs. Not convinced? The developers of Disney BuenaVistaGames (Lion King SNES/Genesis) admitted they had to make the game a lot more difficult in order to prevent Blockbuster quick rentals. Some games even had what I would describe as subscription guide bait like Zelda 1 needing a full map guide to have an idea of what to do.

I'd argue at least half of the NES/1990s era games were designed with explicitly instant game overs to draw out the gameplay time. I've beaten more difficult platformers like Rayman Origins 100% completion and the hitboxes in DKC SNES were dogshit, all of them had issues.
