Meat was probably done at the start of the year, just lots of fixes. Nintendo flat out said Tears of the Kingdom's year long delay was because it was too buggy to sell when the game was otherwise done.

I just got X-ray vision in Super Metroid, and I have finished Zero Mission and Samus Returns. Since this game doesn't have a release date, do you think I can finish Super Metroid, the Prime trilogy, Fusion, and Dread before it releases while playing Silksong in between? Or are they all super long games?

All the 2D Metroids take me about 4-5 hours to compete (didn’t complete Samus Returns). The exceptions are Super Metroid (could be 6 hours long) and Dread (that’s like 8 hours long)
Prime games are much longer because Samus is mostly walking, and there is a puzzle hunt at the end of the game where you comb all the previous areas for artifacts to unlock the final area (which is extremely short, not even really an area). Prime 3’s version of this is much shorter and easier. But you should be able to beat in by late October/November if you marathon it. You could probably beat all the rest of the 2D ones in one week, which I did earlier this year.
Also don’t play Samus Returns, play AM2R. It’s much funner and looks better too. It’s also about 4-6 hours long.

I already beat Samus Returns and Zero Mission. SR took me like 17 hours. I kept backtracking thinking the powerups I unlocked would get me through barriers I couldn't pass and trying to pass them everytime I got a new one. It's really shit that you get the baby Metroid to unlock shit in every area including the first when there's like 5 minutes left in the game if you don't go back for all that stuff.

They don't play anything like Metroid is a methodical game where you appreciate the art design, the level design and the story. Nu-Doom is just a shooter.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. I was shocked by the size of the line and the different kinds of people excited to play Prime 4. As it is now I see it still being capped at 3 mil like the rest of the series. They need to really sell us on what makes the psy powers interesting because right now it just looks like a standard prime game.

I think this was only because of their respective protags being armored space warriors. It was very plainly obvious to anyone who actually played both Halo and the Prime games that they were pretty much nothing alike, at least until Corruption decided to turn the Space Pirates into budget Sangheili and the entire Galactic Federation being a riff between the USMC and the dudes from Starship Troopers. But one could also argue that’s on-brand for Metroid, which has never been ashamed of its inspirations. It’s peak pulp sci-fi schlock, and that’s a good thing.

That's what we said about halo and then it killed itself. Personally I am seeing the same self-immolation happen with the dark age. I feel like the very fact that metroid has such an infrequent release schedule is what keeps the power levels low and the setting stable.

This game got bizarre pride of place at a Nintendo Partner Direct because it makes use of the fucking camera feature. MP4 is emphasizing all the graphical upgrades and the mouse controls. Nintendo has been giving a lot of preference to titles that make use of the Switch 2's features, it's probably why they made one of their junior garage teams make Drag X Drive at gunpoint rather than find more benign uses for the Switch 2 joycons' proof of concept.

And I get it. It’s a hard sell. I tell anyone I know who is thinking about getting into the series that it’s basically a vibe check. I actually think Ridley at the end of SR was a bad idea. Unless they fittingly change the intro of Super in a remake, Samus now looks like an idiot for leaving the Metroid so unprotected after just fighting off an attempt by Ridley to take it.

Well, it’s because the titular monsters are wiped out in the second mainline game, so for Prime to do anything with Metroids it has to take place before that. What I HOPE changed is that now that Samus IS the titular Metroid as of Dread, they can start making games take place post-Dread. Obviously MP4 was in development before Dread so it won’t be doing that, but hopefully next time.
