im actually having a hard time figuring out what to do for turn 1 since the pegasus enemies are very difficult to kill. only oboro with a beast slayer can kill one on enemy phase, though kaden can double with a tonic and kill another. it is gonna take 4 actions to kill the rest on turn 2 but i need to block all the bridges as well. probably using corrins first turn to flood the second river so kagero doesnt have to fight swordmasters. sorry for taking a while

Framme makes a pretty decent Bonded Shield bot since Qi-Adept is 100% activation for everyone, and especially for Alear, since she gets an extra 10 avoid from her personal and -1 damage taken from Alear's, making her a less viable target for enemies. Her HP kinda sucks though, you might need to give her a robe or a constant supply of HP tonics. If you actually want to use her for combat instead, she's actually not that bad as physical (30% STR growth, 55% SPD growth). I found griffin to be a good fit for her, but she could probably use physical weapons on MK too.

I think Alear is almost in the perfect spot for a Lord; below average in combat, but easy enough to turn into a solid combat unit, has good support capabilities, and falls off in midgame only to get a huge powerup and combat boost after unlocking Engage+. This versatility permits various play styles and strategies. this wouldn't necessarily matter that much if the player weren't forced to field them, but as they are, they need to be reliably viable.

This isn't chess, so that idea doesn't work. People hate having to field dead weight, and making the avatar/lord stronger helps the player bond with the character and give a shit about them. Alear's passive gives a guaranteed 3 true damage to all adjacent ally hits. Panette is a crit machine, that's her purpose, so she always does 3x damage. She's also fast, so she attacks 2 times. And giving her a brave axe makes her attack 2x per hit.
So 3*3*2*2=36. You then can use Seadall to dance her for another 36, then a Byleth ring to dance both of them for Panette to do a third 36, then Seadall dance her again for a fourth 36.

Alear is always contributing in my runs, either with positioning or adding chip damage by proccing a few backup chain attacks, or getting unique effects from rings or breaks. Sure she isnt very strong by about chapter 11, oh well. The only time I've had a bad Alear that could not do anything is when I tried to do a bow knight Alear but her build and str are just too low to make her a reliable offensive unit. Also bow knight is unfortunately a poor class despite how cool they are throughout the series.
I think people had a hard time adjusting to the meta of engage where you have a handful of strong combat carries and then the rest of your team is utility fillers or hybrids that don't need the same resources to do their job. They probably turned their alear into a wyvern or something and expected her to be robin 2.0. nah, she has useful and unique utilities as well as just slightly below average combat, but thats fine since offense boosting resources are limited and contested in engage anyways.

It's dumb to me that people call Alear bad because even keeping them in their default class, Alear is still useful with Dragon typing providing unique, powerful support when combined with Emblem Rings. It's not the optimal way to use Alear but it's still a decently good way. It just says to me that midwits only judge units as good or bad based on how good they kill things and only big brain FE players factor in things like support or staff utility into unit viability.

Light Sword is overrated as shit. It's good because it's basically free, but it's not even better at killing things than Eyvel's fire sword, of which you can obtain multiple replicas throughout the game. It typically breaks in early Munster and you don't repair it because there are more worth candidates.

At the end of the day, I'm making a broader point about how these games are -balanced-. Roy feels good in FE5 because FE5 is much kinder to low-bases growth units with his essential unit characteristics (swordlord); meanwhile Leif would blow in FE6, same as Roy. I'm attacking the idea that Roy being a piece of shit is "good design." Leif isn't broken, but he's still well designed. Because FE5 is a much better balanced game than FE6. Don't ever take balancing lessons from FE6.

Overall I agree that Leif is well designed and Roy is not, but it sounds more like you want FE6 to have a lower difficulty, perhaps one that removes those pesky hard mode bonuses, so that roy could function with his shit stats rather than giving him a niche like the well-designed lords have.

It's great. You can take the fire sword into Munster but Leif won't have the sword rank for it, it's less accurate than the Light sword. The Light sword will likely last the entire game, but you'll use it most heavily in Munster as it's very useful to have a ranged attacker in chapters 4 and 4x, plus Leif needs the extra might to kill at 1-range. Fortunately Leif isn't a one-trick-pony and will switch to holding the King sword later on so that he can provide charisma bonus plus his own support bonus to key bosskillers.
