/v/ is smart enough not to fall for marketing gimmicks, right?

>Number one - refresh rate. Everyone knows the human eye cannot tell the difference past 30 frames per second, so why bother with all that extra hertz?

>Number two - 4K Resolution, why buy a monitor that requires expensive new hardware when you can just use 1080p.
Anonymous No.719010638
>4K. Most Vidya is just an upscaled 720p console version

since OP is a faggot as always, heres the list from 7 to 1:
Zero-bezel screens
Built-in speakers and Eye Care
Dynamic contrast ratio
DisplayHDR 400 (on most models)
1ms response time
HDMI 2.1
Sky-high refresh rates (240Hz is high-end for the majority)

all true

>Zero-bezel screens
Not valid, they look nice
>Built-in speakers
True, pointless.
>DisplayHDR 400
Yeah, this is the bare minimum to officially say the monitor supports HDR. Might as well just not bother, though.
>HDMI 2.1
Unless you want to use DSC, for 4k 120Hz and higher you need a monitor that supports that. Or DP 2.0, but those are even rarer.
>1ms response time
This is just manufacturers lying
>Sky-high refresh rates (240Hz is high-end for the majority)
Agree, higher than that is just placebo for eSports, and requires you to play with everything on lowest settings anyway.

I read an article the other day on a formerly renowned german gaming site that a mouse with a high (polling) refresh rate like those 8000k only makes sense if you also have a screen with 240hz+ monitor

240hz is already bullshit and esport fags play on lowest settings anyway because it makes it easier to not get distracted by unnecessary detail, foliage etc.
With proper sync 60-90fps would be the most human perceivable

Yeah, I want that on my high quality speakers.

not only that only a select handful of modern competitive games can even run above 300 fps anyways due to their engine limits

I thought 60hz -> 140hz was noticeable but 140hz -> 240hz was a meme?
Anonymous No.719015715
I can tell on desktop mouse movement between 60hz and 140hz. Not sure about in game.
I can tell 75hz and 90hz in VR.

I recently swapped my old 144hz monitor for a huge, vibrant, curved 100hz one thinking the fps loss wouldn't be noticeable but it's like I went back to 60fps, shit's still intolerable after 4 months

This but unironically. 4k requires a fuckton of extra GPU power for a small amount of quality gain.
4k is for tv and movies and anime, vidya only needs 1440p
Anonymous No.719018235
>>719015574
it's only noticeable because
eyes -> monitor -> gpu
aren't synchronized. The human eye/brain isn't very consistent and inert, so it might see a change of 16ms and sometimes won't notice a change of 30ms.
A gpu might provide 2 images before the next screen refresh, then miss the next refresh and the same image is displayed.
Lastly monitor refreshrate is wonky definition because the time it takes to update one bit of color depends heavily on the color change and panel type.

That's the only reason why anything above 60fps or even above 120fps is still somewhat occasionally noticeable

All good games can be run 4K on a mid tier card.

4k is close to solve the issue with post processing shit like AA.
Is it possible to use AI upscaling just for downsampling?

im on 360hz, its noticable but not as big of a jump as say 60 to 144

The only spec you need is price, the more something costs the better, simple as that
