I think the mutt is cute.

The main issue with him is how quickly his upgrades scale up until mid-to-late game. Being able to jump and dash like that in a Pikmin game adds some new possibilities (feeling like in 10 years time we could have some cool ROM hacks with him used a little better), but they really fumbled with balancing the bastard and making the whole base game too dependent on him.

Pikmin 4 is a game balanced around the idea of beating it the least amount of days possible with all treasure.
Problem with that is people who aren’t autistic will just get a rather leisure experience that does more harm to the image of the game than good. That said the game kinda drops off in difficulty once you get past Serene Shores.

Makes sense. Especially as it closer resembles 2 than 1 or 3 with dungeons, not having the time limit from 1 or 3 (lol) them definitely adds to the leisure for casuals.

Some changes do feel rather arbitrary though, like the 3 type limit in the overworld not existing when underground for some reason. Upgrades also really start to feel rather redundant as well as enemies don't respawn in the overworld. Oatchi's fat fucking ass just stomps so hard.

Giving him the carey weight of even 50, let alone 100 pikmin, was a really poor desicion. Giving him the ability to jump AND carry pikmin on his back changed the gsme entirely. You can call that change good or bad but it cemented him as a better captain than the OC

If 4 didn't have the dog, the Pikmin amount limit, the Pikmin type limit, the forced aim-assist, the other dog, a playable character without character, a entire team of bad characters speaking to you all of the time, a fuckton of random fucks that crashed on PNF for no reason, the other other dog, areas lacking the atmosphere of Earth without humans, bland or unfitting music, bringing back some enemies for nostalgiabait (and making them worse), enemies being weak both offensively and defensively, enemies not even respawning making them even more nothing than they already were, the literal dogshit story, the dreaded nighttime that was always said to be extremely dangerous being a fucking shitty tower defense mode, Ice Pikmin being a mix of the overpowered Purple Pikmin and Bitter spray of Pikmin 2 combined and forced to be used a lot, Glow Pikmin just being better Bulbmin for the terrible night mode, the side modes of previous games being forced into the main game, said no-longer-side modes being the only "good" part of the game and honestly probably more stuff, then maybe 4 could've been good.

You make mostly good points. I think there are independant flaws and flaws related to one another. The talkative but do-nothing crew could be outright removed. Spawning enemies and buffing them could be a good fix to improve the levels. Pikmin 2 hardly needed the day count, but without spawning enemies there is 0 purpose in P4 to count the days outside of personal info tracking (and actually it pisses me off autistically that night missions eat a whole day when I could have done a day of work and then a night mission, they didn't need to make the calender go by twice as fast).

How the hell do you do the empress bulblax in 4 that's in the tiny chamber? I just cheesed it with bombs.
