1800 is good. They don't need the years of support, but the various DLC additions also help.
They're just generally good games.
>also, arent anno games <<< civ games? or its a dif genre at all
Anno games are city builders, Civ are 4x games. Anno has you building up a city, as well as trading between AI and your own other colonies to supply it with the resources it needs.

Civ and Anno are pretty dissimilar games. Civ is about going through the eras from Ancient to Modern and adapting to diplomatic conditions and geographic complexity
Meanwhile Anno is much more about the actual construction of your city(s) with resources existing mainly so you can make aesthetic production chains and keep you invested. It's a fun fucking game though when you get down to it, it's a game that really gives back the autism you put in
There's a couple DLC that I would recommend, Land of Lions in particular had a cool set of storylines but mostly just lets you completely break the midgame economy. Sunken Harvest allows Crown Falls which is basically the ultra super late game for 1800, you don't have to buy it right away if you aren't interested since on purchase it unlocks the ability to opt in on your save file

this was from a couple weeks ago so i doubt it'll change much
my only complaint really is the bottom stuff, it's pretty low quality UI design. The rest is similar to what they did in other games

Do I need to watch a bunch of YouTube tutorials in order to learn how to properly play it like Cities Skylines, or is it something you can naturally learn by playing?

Im a retard and once I hit steam engines I cant balance my budget. Every new building sends me into the red. Never had one investor.... did put about 80 hours in between a few campaigns and had an absolute blast.

luxury goods bro
also try and promote as much of the lower tiers of workers up as you can because the amount of taxes they pay is way better the higher you go

you can watch an introduction tutorial to get a better explanation of the game, but the game is ultimately a logistic simulator and building placement game
once you get your head around
>Factory 1 produces X goods per tick
>Factory 2 needs X input per tick to produce Y goods
>Your population needs Y goods per tick to be happy
and the campaign is one long ass tutorial to teach you everything

playing the tutorial campaign is enough, you may end up looking up tutorials for more aesthetic while efficient building though

I learned about the 10x10 square technique and never looked back

the 10x10 design philosophy is nice, I try to avoid falling into min-max building placement though as I get too caught up in optimisation instead of just enjoying the game

I love this game the year 5 version for 35 dollars has all of the gameplay related dlc. the more expensive one comes additionally with all cosmetic dlc which you don't need.
I can't recommend the 35 dollar version enough. this game is great and all the dlc makes it even greater. I suppose it's not for everyone but I really don't know how anyone could dislike this game.

I want to make one recommendation to anyone who decides to play this game for the first time. I post this in every thread. maybe someone else already covered it
When you go to play the campaign. Click easy, then click custom, then click next. this lets you customize the easy rules. there's one thing you want to change. go to the AI and deselect the medium AI and select a third easy Ai instead (or leave it empty). the easy AI will always ask permission before settling in island. the medium one wont, which can be annoying for a first timer. more importantly the easy AI will never go to a new region (like south america or africa) before you get there first. the medium Ai will eventually go there and start claiming territory after a preset time has passed. so you will end up arriving in africa and see half the islands claimed which is really frustrating if you are just trying to go at your own pace and relax.

You can change whatever other things you like too of course. personally I always turn off fog of war.
