i still dont really get this take. maybe the very end of the game, sure
but otherwise, the game has some extremely long stretches in the early-middle game of grey linear areas with hours before you reach bosses, only to have some meme tier bosses in between. Like theres this huge plot of the game where the only action boss to look towards is Abyss Watchers, and maybe dancers if you wanna do it early on a replay, and before that you will be going through a huge chore in the settlement, road of sacrifices, farron keep, catacombs... If you try to rush past that you miss out on a ton of interesting NPC interactions/quests, which are actually one of the highlights of the game compared to the others & one of the few things keeping its world a little interesting
Sekiro is far more of a boss rushey game without really sacrificing any of the other elements and at most trading them for others, it genuinely has a lot more to offer in that department, while DS3 unironically has less bosses than DS1, and WAY less bosses than DS2. I would consider DS3 a great actioney game if there were more great areas akin to High wall of Lothric and Kings' Garden, more tricky enemies like the black knights. but these are a huge minority and youre mostly fighting dumb fodder and padding. Even in the ringed city DLC, they had some amazing knights but decided to spend most of the runtime on rotten people and swamp niggas. So it just feels like much lower action than DS2 where you get a lot more bosses AND the normal areas are constantly trying to rape you, and by extension ER's later stages also work much better as a boss rush (but you can also explore slowly and do lots of side activities if you want)
