the game is fucking amazing, i would say like episode 2 but 10x better
>combine squads dash between cover, actually yell at each other, point and flank
>one guy kicks a crate in front of himself to use as temporary cover while another tries to climb up a busted car to get a better angle
>leaving a medkit i found in case im low, try to circle back for it later
>combine dude grabs it before me and heals himself right in front of my face
they even shoot at random stuff in the environment, like fire extinguishers that go off and fill the room with smoke, can't see shit
at one point a soldier gets downed, another one drags his body behind cover like they care about each other
blow a guy’s leg off with a shotgun, he starts crawling and firing back while screaming on comms
vehicles.. they actually feel good to drive, not that clunky hl2 boatcar nonsense
tires react to whatever surface you’re on, like mud slows you down, gravel kicks up little rocks, snow makes you slip around
drive through a puddle, mud splatters up on the windshield and the side of the car, it actually stays there until you hit water again or wipe it somehow
not just cosmetic, it can mess with visibility
world isn’t full of “press E to upgrade” garbage either
you literally find random parts lying around in abandoned garages, wrecks, or on dead rebels’ rides
slap a stronger bumper on and now you can ram through roadblocks, swap out tires for offroad ones and suddenly mud feels different
balance is perfect, it’s not full sim autism but not mario kart either
has that weighty feel while still letting you pull some crazy stunts
combine actually react to vehicles too, they try to spike strip you, or throw junk in the road to slow you down
ran over a soldier and his squad didn’t just ignore it, they freaked out, some started firing like mad, others scrambled for cover
feels less like “driving section” and more like a natural part of the game
