Even if the Egyptian God cards had been released with their full, unaltered in-anime/manga effects they would not have been good. Forgetting for a moment that Ra would need 3 separate text boxes for all the effects it had, the God cards were just not good. You're going -3 for a big beater that is immune to trap cards, who gives a shit. None of them have actual destruction protection, cards like Smashing Ground get rid of them immediately and cards that had been in the game by the time of their printing were much stronger. Caius the Shadow Monarch outclasses every god card and never even got banned.
The God cards were a fine plot device and a Timmy's wet dream but anyone who actually knows how to play card games knew that shit like Guardian Slime (A non-OPT reviver that can even interrupt S/T effects) and Cards of Safe Return (Draw 3 for minimal cost) were the actual busted cards of the Battle City arc. Hell, they brought Cards of Safe Return to the actual game, heavily nerfed it, and it STILL had to be banned. There's just no world where "Big monster that punches really hard" is good, it just looked good in the anime because no one played monster removal.
