The problem with Gorillaz as a project is that it thrived on having guest appearances from artists with actual talent. Old talent is constantly becoming harder and harder to find, and there's extremely little new talent to be found. Plastic Beach was truly the last time Albarn exercised his ability to locate talented artists (new and old) and make quality music that blends styles. Ever since Humanz, it's sounded like a mismatch of trap nonsense and not at all like Albarn had any input. He started rectifying it when people reasonably started giving him shit.
