MGS2 has my favorite atmosphere
The atmosphere of being stuck on this oil rig - basically a small, vacated industrial town - in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by misty air, flocks of squeaking seagulls, and waves as far as the eyes can see. Games in the early 2000s really had a knack for anything near/in water. Nobody’s around other than a few soldiers patrolling the area and the machinery humming in the background. It’s very comfy. All punctuated by a melancholic, bluesy soundtrack and great sound design, even the menu noises sound cool. It reminds me of a time when games didn’t rush to explain everything, when silence and space were part of the storytelling.

Solidus did nothing wrong btw.

As a game it aged like milk.

This. Running between struts to defuse bombs is not something you want to do on a replay. Nor is watching the shitty cutscenes over.

I like some outside parts, but the abundance of orange/yellow overall kills the vibe for me. Too many samey locations too; we had just come from MGS1 where you go literally everywhere in some small ass base
