Dragon Quest comes to mind. The Church is sometimes taken over by bad actors, but it and the faith itself are fine. In reality, the elevens love Gnostic themes, and Abrahamic iconography work great for that.

you know, it actually feels pretty good to not be the only illiterate person here.

Rather forgiving of them really since the church once tried to take over the country and was banished for decades over it

Honestly the only shitty church person I can even think of is the comically racist guy from Prototype. Even the sociopathic sadist still has legitimate faith and is capable of helping people.

This excerpt from Aizawa Seishisai gives a pretty good view of how Japan saw Christianity, though itโ€™s from 1845 and not the 1600s when the persecution of Christians and the closing of Japan began
>โ€œFor close to three hundred years now the Western barbarians have rampaged on the high seas. Why are they able to enlarge their territories and fulfill their every desire?...Christianity is the sole key to their success. It is a truly evil and base religion, barely worth discussing. But its main doctrines are simple to grasp and well-contrived; they can easily deceive stupid commoners with it....โ€
>โ€Whenever they seek to take over a country, they employ the same method. By trading with that nation, they learn about its geography and defenses. If these be weak, they dispatch troops to invade the nation; if strong, they propagate Christianity to subvert it from within....โ€
Tldr, they view christians the same way whites view jews.

Historically the first contact japan ever had with Christianity was from the portugesearound the 1500s, the mf Christians systematically seeded national unrest in Japan in order to brainwash enough people to overthrow the Shogun and instate a Christian state and convert Japan into a Portuguese colony like Spain had done in other countries like the philiphines
Based Shogun mde the Christians debate against the Budists in order to see which one was the "true" religion and the Christians got btfo'd
Then japan kille dall the christian foreigners and banned Christianity until the modern era
in the modern era (around the 80s iirc), christian based suicide cults poped up, they caused a lot of terrorist attacks and did a few mass suicides.
Japan has had horrible experiences with Christianity

sources? There's are many, but here's a small narration of japanese letters and scriptures from that time:

Eh? They've got some bad eggs, but they're effectively the Men in Black of the Nasuverse, keeping the supernatural world at bay while trying (largely rather successfully too) to keep human world unaffected by the crazy shit going on beyond the shadows.
Basically. Not exaggerate. But it's pretty much thanks to the Church that humanity aren't the cattle of whatever monstrous/magical freaks also inhabits the earth.

I read "at best" like a retard, and instantly thought of the interpretations of the church on series like Hellsing, final fantasy 13, and type moon

You should use Christian in air quotes. Japanese syncretism made their dogma heretical from the start and encouraged the kind of schizo personality cult shit that got them in trouble over the centuries
