Remember when we were tricked into thinking these games are good?

The first two seasons were.
Then they fucked up and didn't bring Kenny back for those of us who chose the Wellington ending.

Looking back, they were mechanically terrible games.
Awful gameplay, little actual "choice" (save a person and they'll die 20 minutes later anyway). I was tricked into playing visual novels.

That said, they were still memorable experiences and I'm glad I played the first two seasons and no further

First season was great, last season was actually good too
Obviously you need to abandon all hope about "meaningful decisions" to enjoy them but i replayed them this year and enjoyed them
Second and spic seasons were so fucking bad tho, even Michonne season wasn't as bad

I used to be more harsh on season 4, but there were a couple standout moments, and the handling of what happened to Clem was done well. Season 3 was so goddamn frustrating in parts because it just never seemed to matter what you said or what the truth was. Like, you could never fully explain to Tripp what happened with Conrad and Clem in the train. The motherfucker held a kid hostage, Javi's family no less, and the game never lets you truly hash that out with Tripp that Conrad deserved to die in that situation. It also doesn't matter that you're brotherly to David and never reciprocate Kate's feelings. I get that sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, things won't work out, but there comes a fuckin point in a video game like this where your choices have to count for something, and Season 3 is wayyy too linear in that regard. Season 2 is great, and could've been way better if they'd make it as bleak and scary as possible, rather than half-assing it for the sake of casting as wide a net as possible. Season 1 is obviously the best.

S1 WAS good due to the novelty.
S2 was utter shit in terms of how (not even remotely) impactful your choices were, and when S3 started with Kenny dying after deciding to stick with him I uninstalled and moved on with my life.

The first season was actually good for it's time, compared to other The Walking Dead adaptations. The writers for that season, mainly Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin, then jumped ship and it started going downhill (they even wrote the story for Half Life Alyx iirc so something good came out of it atleast)

For me it's the season chronological order, started being less interesting as they released more cashcows. Season 4 was literally made to keep the company afloat but they still went bankrupt lmao. The ending in particular sours it for me, because they ripped off the season 1 ending. Easily the worst season.

Season 4 was already in trouble before they even began to work on it, it's a game made with assets of the original first two episodes. I like the ending in the sense that Clem lives, it's the most thematic appropriate ending for her to confront and survive her most traumatic night, I just feel it was rushed due to the company going under and Skybound having to end the season with an even smaller team.

Goddamn, why did they change that to having some random Ruskies attack the group instead? It always felt so out of place. Meanwhile, Eddie coming back actually makes perfect sense in how it gives the 400 days DLC a true connection going forward, while also making the decisions tougher since you're dealing with a character you already know. Same with how Luke vs. Kenny made much more sense than what we got.

The first Season was good, the second Season was ok to good(the good parts are mostly Kenny/Clem).

The entire series focusing on JUST Clementine is what makes it so shit. Lee sticking around for longer, or the entire thing, or there being a more cohesive group throughout would've helped carry this shitshow.

There should've never been anything past what they were originally gonna do for Season 2, which in the end, ended up being more of the same like Season 3 & 4, just maybe slightly more scary and bleak. However, if they truly leaned into the horror, it would've had its own identity and place in the story relative to Season 1 which, while a great story, never really had me feeling horrified.

The cut music alone of Season 2 has me paranoid, the one for Don't Look Back makes me feel like I'm being watched.

I agree that having a more cohesive group would have helped but I think the weird pivot they tried to do for ANF was the actual problem. It's two stories stitched together, where they tried to sell a new story but also Clem's mere presnce makes everyone want to know more about her than the actual story and the new characters can't work as a new long term supporting cast due to the multiple endings, so once the next game does another pivot to the main draw of the series, it feels like it was wasted time since now the final game has to develop AJ and their relationship as the most important one plus the other characters that function as Clem's final crew, with mixed results. Ultimately, Clementine is what carries whole the series.

Telltale shifting their stories fucked them over big time. The episode previews for S2 were hinting at something completely different. Felt like we were going to choose between the group at the start or the 400 Days group. Then they shifted that to Kenny or Luke and then again to Kenny or Jane.

Only TT games I played were the Batman ones. Playing as a Bruce Wayne with mutism whose only goal is to be as assoholic as possible was fun at times but I wouldn't recommend the games. Best part was destroying Bruce's relationship with Alfred and endangering him multiple times, fucking Catwoman and then fucking her over for the rest of the game, getting Fox killed and being a dick to his daughter and getting Gordon fired were the highlights. Unfortunately the game clunkily forces you to work for BBW if you alienate yourself too much

What I still don't understand is how far Arvo was from his cabin group, like remember how far they had to walk in Episode 5 to get to it? It was so far they had to sleep at the midway point after walking for hours. Across that same frozen lake supposedly, just to stash some medicine? Why not just hide it in the snow somewhere close, or dig a hole? Something's not addin up.

Season 1 is a lot more linear and pigeonholes you into just one ending. The only minor alterations are how you ended things with Catwoman and how you treated Dent. I obviously made Catwoman hate me and saved Dent so that he never gets burned (making the nickname Two-Face make no sense).

iirc ch5 was originally supposed to take place in a nearby town, you can see it when looking through the binoculars at the museum and i'm pretty sure that's why the group was in such a rush to leave after rebecca gave birth
ch4 was supposed to end at the outskirts of said town in a church, which is why the final achievement for ch4 depicts a church that we never see (but has some model work in the files iirc)
ch5 drops this entirely and suddenly they're in the middle of nowhere, despite being somewhat close to a suburb area given that they're still pretty close to the museum and howe's

season 2 went through multiple rewrites before ending
the first story was focused on clementine and christa's relationship and getting to proto-wellington, some characters in the final game appear, like an early form of the cabin group, kenny, and sarita all exist in some way or another
kenny dies at some point but iirc early sarita lived, ending would've been clementine choosing to stay with the group in the low class part of wellington, or getting into the higher class part because she's a child
second draft was by the ceo, apparently it sucked ass, the rumors about a tiger come from here and there would've been a segment where the group is being stalked by what they think is a super zombie, but is actually an escaped tiger from a nearby zoo, apparently kenny vs luke originated here but i can't say for sure
the beta script is the fabled super dark story we almost got, lots of the early release material and first ep1 release build were in line with it, but the overall story is pretty unknown
ending would've been abandoning aj for a better chance of survival or lying down with him in the snow

the restrooms have modeled interiors, and the second version of s2e3's backround very much resembled the walls so maybe more time would've been spent at the lodge and rebecca gave birth there? i remember hearing something that she was supposed to die in ep3 initially but i can't say for sure

The first season is better written than any movie game.

I want a spin-off that's basically a third person L4D2 clone where you kill waves of zombies and bandits while getting to choose among your favorite characters from all the seasons to play as, each with their own unique dialogue and interactions with each other. I just want my Clem, Lee and Kenny dream team, man. Guess L4D mods will do for the time being.
