when was the last time someone tried to invent new genres like Nintendo did with Pikmin?

I still feel like there is so much potential to console based RTS hybrid games. Thronefall feels a little like pikmin with how you "call" your allies in an area around you like the pikmin whistle and then give them tasks.

I'm not done with pikmin 4 yet but I think I feel comfortable ordering the series as 1>3>2>4. I prefer time based pikmin over resource based pikmin.

2 and 4 have the same design philosophy where you're given infinite days to dungeon crawl through caves. 2 plays more like 1 but will bust your balls in later caves, 4 has shorter and easier caves but makes significant changes to the fundamental gameplay.

4 looks so obnoxious design wise that I don't think I'll ever play it. I love 1 2 and 3 though

The first two Pikmin games have really great OSTs, 3's is also fine but kind of misses the mark IMO while 4 just fell for the ambient meme.

Pikmin 2 is the best because of the caves.

Back when I was a kid I would constantly go onto the "New Play Control" Pikmin website for when it was re-released on the Wii and I would just browse the same handful of pages over and over, despite already owning Pikmin for the 'cube.
