I dunno why they haven't bothered to make good single-player content since melee. At least they tried with Brawl, but the way they gave up after that was really sad. You'd think they would have had MORE resources and certainly more time since melee to go bigger and better, and yet it's just been awful.

It's really strange how a bunch of shit thrown together in 13 months by a tiny team so thoroughly cleared everything teams 10x the size with 5x the time could manage to produce

Melee Adventure mode mogs them both, this shit was mindblowing in 2001. It felt like a true tribute to Nintendo's game library.
SSE feels generic and homogenized.

I agree but to be fair,
Adventure was too repetitive
Brawl added coop and had fantastic music and also looked really good.
It really just got held back by its sluggish gameplay. Every Smash after just felt like trying to be more like Melee, without admitting they've taken the wrong direction.

I enjoyed SSE even if it was flawed. I love 64, Melee and Brawl. I put hundreds of hours into each of them. 4 and Ultimate were alright but I dropped 4 shortly after release and I only go to Ultimate now and then. I never bothered with World of Light since it was just a less interesting version of event matches. I can't believe they locked changing the menu music behind completing it. Fucking Sakurai.

Melee's adventure mode is conceptually perfect for the series and actually had enjoyable physics. They just didn't finish it. Going forward all that needed to be done was branching paths and possibly multiple worlds of the same franchise depending on the path like mushroom kingdom/corneria can be a world one but there's also a venom/bowser's castle near the end of a path
