I don't mind anthros, but I wish they'd tone down the designs a bit. Furries going mainstream is not a good thing no matter which side of the fan base you're on.
Things were much better back when there was an air of deniability to it; like they weren't "furries", they were just fantasy cartoon animals.
It might be a vague distinction but you can always kind of tell when someone is making a character as a cool mascot versus a fursona.

Fun if you're into the genre, but it has no real depth, no character progression beyond linear stat boosts, and no new skills to unlock for anyone
There's an alignment system that affects character recruitment but it's completely broken, you'll skew hard toward chaos just by playing the game normally and it's difficult to recover
It also looks like shit outside of the battle sequences, sounds like shit, and plays slow as fuck if you're used to modern srpg amenities

I love the characters and the premise, but EA has been horribly mismanaged and I think season 3 will be the last of it.
Some of the tests were genuinely fun and showed potential; yet, they keep fumbling it. Idk if it's just greed, unrealistic expectations for their audience, inexperience, or general incompetence. Probably a mix of all of those. Maybe someone will get it right someday.

the game was kickstarted and it had to release in the way it did to appeal directly to the people who backed it (also because the game literally burned through all of the development team's finances by launch) which meant as many characters as they could fit in, a solid gameplay engine, a ranked mode and an arcade mode as a small bonus. they weren't really thinking about new player onboarding nor did they anticipate the sheer amount of people trying the game on launch.
it's still sold well anyways, north of 200k copies in its first year is unironically impressive for what it is. the game also has whales that are spending really concerning, downright egregious amounts of money on skins, so it's going to be just fine for a while. obviously a game with more content and on more platforms is more appetizing to a broader audience than a game with less content on one platform, but i don't think they've done poorly for what they managed to get out there.
hopefully year 2 is big, now that we know workshop's on the way along with items.
